Nissan has taken the wraps off the fourth generation X-Trail for India. Prices and variants will be revealed on 1 August. Nissan will bring this SUV as a CBU to India and will become their second model on sale currently after Magnite.
The SUV is powered by a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder engine which produces 161bhp and 300Nm of torque. The engine features Nissan’s patented variable compression turbo engine which is designed to offer efficiency as well as performance together due to the two different compression ratios. The gearbox on offer is the shift-by-wire CVT automatic gearbox which sends power to the front wheels.
For its fourth generation, Nissan engineers have designed the platform keeping the possibility of electrification open for the future. The design itself exudes more luxury and ruggedness than the previous generations with its upright stance, split headlamps, V-Motion grille and 20-inch diamond-cut alloys.
The Nissan X-Trail is based on the CMF-C platform and India gets the three row version. It measures 4,680mm in length, 1,840mm in width, and 1,725mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,705 mm. This 7-seater SUV features a turning radius of 5.5m, 210mm of ground clearance and 255/45 R20 section tyres.
Interior of the X-Trail is designed to be plush and modern. It gets a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 8-inch touchscreen infotainment. It comes with drive-modes, electronic parking brake and cruise control. The front seats get manual adjustment and the upholstery is fabric all-round.
In India, we will also get a 360-degree camera with paddle shifters for the CVT gearbox. The second row gets manual sliding and reclining with a 40:20:40 split-folding and the third row gets 50:50 split-folding.
The SUV will officially be on sale from 1 August in India and will directly compete with Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tiguan and Hyundai Tucson.
X-Trail is the first of Nissan’s five-model strategy for India to re-establish Nissan as a premium manufacturer. It will be followed by two C-segment SUVs, facelift of the Magnite and an A/B segment EV SUV over the next two years.
