With the ‘Nissan Ambition 2030’ plan, Nissan has unveiled four new concept models, all of which share the vision of being carbon neutral across their life cycle. With electrification at the center of this long-term strategy, Nissan is to deliver 23 new electrified models including 15 new EVs, and is aiming for a 50 percent electrification mix by 2030.
They’ve been the pioneers of EVs and now, Nissan aims to accelerate the electrification of its vehicle lineup by offering cars that are more evolved for the upcoming generation of users. Nissan will also continue to enhance its lithium-ion battery technologies and introduce cobalt-free technology to bring down the cost of battery production. They will also launch electric vehicles with the brand’s proprietary all-solid-state batteries (ASSB) — a technology that offers more dynamic performance (due to better weight management) and reduces charging time to one-third, making EVs more efficient, accessible and fun!
Nissan’s new EV Technology Vision looks beyond what has been achieved with the Ariya and heralds the direction of future EVs that make use of advancements in battery technology, hardware, and packaging, offering a wide variety of mobility solutions to match their needs and lifestyles. Examples of this can be seen with the recently unveiled future forward concept cars — Chill-Out, Max-Out, Surf-Out and Hang-Out.
Of the four concepts unveiled, the Chill-Out is a near-future EV and brings about new ways of spending time on the move by offering a productive interior space. Dubbed as a ‘mobile haven’, it underpins the CMF-EV platform and makes use of e-4ORCE — Nissan’s electric 4WD drive system.
The Max-Out is a two-seater convertible concept that focuses on the electric #ThrillOfDriving. With a low center of gravity and ultra-lightweight construction, it is focused on stability and exceptional body control. It also features the unique ability to morph the seating, flattening into the floor to offer more interior space when desired.
The Surf-Out is an off-road biased model that is said to combine an electric powertrain with off-road performance, extended cargo space and an advanced e-4ORCE 4WD system. It’s expected to come with a range of battery capacities.
The Hang-Out concept reimagines cars, changing the perception of mobile living space. It’s said to come with a completely flat floor that extends from the front to the back, with an aim to offer the spaciousness of your living room. Also, with its theatre-like seating and Advanced ProPILOT, movie nights are sure going to be an all-new experience!
In addition to technology upgrades, Nissan will localize manufacturing and sourcing to make EVs more competitive. Ensuring vehicle batteries remain sustainable will also continue to be a priority for Nissan and they intend to expand its battery refurbishing facilities beyond Japan, with new locations in Europe and USA in the coming years.
Currently, Nissan India is on its journey to revival and the Magnite has really worked wonders for the brand. They’ve recently celebrated the 30,000-delivery mark and have crossed 72,000 bookings for their compact SUV. With electrification shaping the future of automobiles, we expect Nissan’s global technological advancements to trickle down to our market as well.
