The next-generation Hyundai i20’s images were leaked, ahead of its scheduled launch next month at the Geneva Motor Show. The re-designed hatchback gets an overall sharper look compared to the previous generation and larger surface areas have been given a blacked-out paint treatment, like the rear tail-gate, along with the roof-mounted spoiler and other trim pieces.
The new i20 seems to have retained its dimensions, although one visible change is the roof-line which has been lowered to give the car a new side profile. The new car is set to get a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver that is flanked by another 10.25-inch touchscreen display in the centre for the infotainment controls. Also, the i20 will get the latest connectivity features like the Bluelink connected car services from Hyundai, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is also rumoured to get a Bose eight-speaker sound system.
The i20 will most likely get the 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 83bhp mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Hyundai might also offer it with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox or a new six-speed “intelligent” manual that disconnects the transmission from the engine when the throttle is not engaged. However, we have to wait till the India launch of the i20 to know what variants and engine configurations will make it to our shores.
