The M 1000 RR is the tracked-focused variant of the much-loved S 1000 RR. BMW has replaced several parts with carbonfibre alternatives and added aerodynamic upgrades to make this an absolute track weapon. The newer model gets even more track-focused with increased aerodynamics and plenty of carbonfibre.

BMW M 1000 RR design

The new BMW M 1000 RR features a redesigned rear section for a lighter, sportier, and more dynamic appearance. It comes with a short number plate holder and an ergonomic M Endurance seat. The fairing made out of exposed visible carbonfibre increases top speed and improves airflow around the rider. The new model also gets revised winglets to generate more aerodynamic downforce, providing increased stability and reduced wheelie tendency. In addition to this, the bike also gets a taller windscreen as compared to the standard model. The M 1000 RR features M brakes, developed from racing brakes used in the World Superbike Championship. The M brake callipers feature a blue anodized coating and the M logo. The rear wiring harness has also been modified, allowing for easier and faster removal of the number plate holder with light units.

You also have the option of the M 1000 RR Competition, which includes an M milled parts package, the M carbon package, a 220gm lighter swing arm, an M Endurance chain, and the passenger package with a tail-hump cover. Brake cooling air ducts, called brake ducts, are integrated into the front mudguard, enhancing airflow and improving brake performance. Forged wheels are available as an option.

BMW M 1000 RR features

The bike offers several racing modes like Rain, Road, Dynamic, Race, and also three Race Pro modes with adjustable characteristic throttle curves for optimum response and engine brake with threefold-adjustable engine drag torque. BMW offers the latest generation of dynamic traction control (DTC) and DTC wheelie function with a 6-axle sensor box. The instrument cluster has a 6.5-inch TFT display with an exclusive M start animation. In addition, there is launch control, clutchless-gear shifts and hill-start assist. It also features an OBD interface that can be used with an activation code for the M GPS data logger and M GPS laptrigger (part of the M Competition package). Additional features include a lightweight M battery, a USB charging socket in the rear, integrated LED light units, and heated grips.

BMW M 1000 RR chassis

The chassis of the M 1000 RR includes a bridge frame made of aluminium. It has an optimised upside-down fork and a revised central spring strut with Full Floater Pro kinematics. The chassis design has been trimmed for track use, with modified geometry and optimised wheel load distribution, and the swinging arm pivot point comes with extended adjustability.

BMW M 1000 RR engine

The engine features 2-ring forged pistons, fully CNC machined intake ports, adapted combustion chambers, lighter titanium connecting rods, slimmer and lighter rocker arms, and optimised camshafts. It also incorporates titanium valves and lightweight cam followers. The M 1000 RR has a light and compact engine, including longer and 85gm lighter Pankl titanium connecting rods for reduced friction and weight compared to the S 1000 RR. The M 1000 RR is equipped with an anti-hopping clutch optimised for race starts, and an optimised intake system with shorter intake funnels for improved charge exchange at high engine speeds. BMW has also added the ShiftCam technology for variable valve timing and lift. The lightweight exhaust system consists of a titanium manifold, a front silencer, and a rear silencer. The engine has undergone extensive modifications for racing, resulting in increased peak power and maximum engine speed. It has a peak output of 209bhp at 14,500rpm and a maximum torque of 113Nm at 11,000rpm. BMW claims the top speedṣ has increased from 306kmph on the previous model to 314kmph.

BMW M 1000 RR price and rivals

As this is just a teaser, prices aren’t out yet. But expect this to be more expensive than the previous model, which had an ex-showroom price of Rs 42 lakh. As for the rivals, the Ducati Panigale V4 R is currently the only road-legal rival for this bike in India, with a starting price of Rs 70 lakh (ex-showroom).
