MG Comet EV details leaked

A leaked brochure of the upcoming super compact hatchback Comet reveals a 230km range and more

MG’s electric hatchback called the Comet was due for an unveil today. But the brochure has been leaked and it gives some interesting information. From the brochure, we can see a range of 230km and a full charge time of seven hours. MG has planned this as a premium hatchback and thus it comes with features like dual screens, keyless entry, a rear camera, voice commands and more.

The Comet is focused on city riding and comes in a package that suits our narrow and congested lanes. According to the leaked brochure, the car has a length of 2974mm, while the width and height are 1505mm and 1631mm respectively which suggests that this will sit a total of 4 passengers. The car is based on the Wuling EV that is sold in China and takes heavy inspiration from that. In alignment with modern front-end styling, the bumpers house the LED indicators. The charging port seems to be given at the front beneath the MG logo. On the side are 12-inch alloys that come wrapped in 145-section tyres. For colours, you get multiple options and MG has also given a lot of different sticker options for the customer to make their car unique.

From the pictures leaked a while back, we can see dual 10.25-inch screens and a two-spoke steering wheel which can be adjusted for height. According to leaks, the infotainment screen can be customised fully to suit your wants, including adding widgets. You also get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Voice commands are also said to be on offer, and other features included are keyless entry, an electronic parking brake, and a reverse camera. On the safety front, the Comet will get dual airbags with ABS. The car will also most likely get driving modes to manage range and performance.

A single PMSM motor will power the hatch. Leaked performance figures suggest that the Comet will make 41bhp and 110Nm of torque through the 17.2kWh battery, which can be fully charged in 7 hours. You can see disc brakes in the front whereas the back wheels have conventional drum brakes.

MG Comet EV price and rivals

The price hasn’t been revealed yet but we estimate starting prices from around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) to compete with the Tiago EV and the eC3 from Citroen. The Tata Tiago EV comes with a 19.2kWh battery and is priced between Rs 8.69 lakh and Rs 11.99 lakh. Citroen comes with the biggest battery among the three with a capacity of 29.2kWh and is priced between Rs 11.50 lakh and Rs 12.43 lakh (ex-showroom). Production is said to have already commenced in the company’s Gujarat plant.
