MG Motors India has unveiled the all-new MG Astor, the latest addition to the company’s mid-size SUV portfolio. The Astor is basically a facelifted ICE version of the ZS and there haven’t been many details given out by the company as of yet except that the car comes powered by Artificial Intelligence and plenty of segment-first features.
The Astor gets an in-car personal assistant which is powered by AI that sits on the centre of the dashboard right above the central AC ducts. The personal assistant is capable of performing tasks like giving Information from Wikipedia, on the go news, in-car voice control commands, navigation support and entertainment.
The Astor packs in safety features like the Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) that improves vehicle stability, a mid-range radar along and a multi-purpose camera. The Astor also gets the upgraded Autonomous Level II technology (MG Gloster gets Autonomous Level I tech) with an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) that has adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, rear-drive assist, lane keep assist, speed assist and blind-spot detection. The ADAS functionality is enabled by the mid-range radar and the multiple-purpose camera.
For the new Drive AI, MG has collaborated with multiple companies like Jio, Park+, MapmyIndia and many more to offer better connectivity and navigation and is called the i-Smart hub. The Astor is installed with a Jio sim for connectivity and that couples with the collaborations with the aforementioned companies enable features like navigation, car parking reservations and information on car health.
On the design front, we don’t have many details yet, but as mentioned earlier, it is basically the facelifted ICE version of the MG ZS SUV. Although there hasn’t been any official release on the specifications of the new SUV, our sources say that Astor will get two engine options — a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre engine and a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol.
