It seems like Mercedes-Benz has taken it upon itself to cure people from the syndrome called ‘range anxiety.’ You see, a lot of manufacturers are aiming to electrify their lineups within a certain timeline, and the curiosity among customers is increasing as well. However, the term ‘range anxiety’ is what drives a lot of customers away. Mercedes-Benz aims to stop that with the Vision EQXX concept.

The recently-unveiled Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX concept aims to deliver the promise of being the most efficient electric vehicle, and now there’s a record to prove exactly that. The Vision EQXX was recently driven from a town called Sindelfingen in Germany, and went through Switzerland, Italy, and Milan before finally reaching its destination — the city of Cassis in South France, all that on a single charge! The EQXX travelled a distance of 1008km as it traversed through multiple terrains such as the everyday city traffic, to steep mountainous climbs and the fast highways as well. It also faced the challenge of varying weather conditions as temperatures ranged between 3 degrees to 18 degrees Celsius. However, the Vision EQXX didn’t break a sweat and kept going at an average speed of 87.4kmph, with a 140kmph top speed recorded on the Autobahn. The distance from Sindelfingen to Cassis was covered in a time of 12 hours and 2 minutes, with the Vision EQXX still having about 15% charge remaining — it could go on for another 140km! The car returned an average consumption figure of 8.7kWh/100km, which is even lower than Mercedes-Benz’ initial claimed figure of 10kWh/100km!

The Vision EQXX may just be a concept car, but its learnings will be incorporated into future Mercedes-Benz offerings

To offer some specifics, the Vision EQXX is powered by an electric motor placed at the rear which produces 241bhp. It is backed by a battery pack rated at less than 100kWh which has been designed to deliver 1000km of range. The Vision EQXX also makes use of 117 solar panels which give it an extra two-percent of charge, adding upto 25km of range.

The Vision EQXX may just be a concept car, but the learnings from this platform will make way onto a production car and further strengthen Mercedes-Benz’ case as an electric car manufacturer.

Mercedes-Benz has started accepting bookings of the C-Class, which will be launched very soon — give it a read here!
