Mercedes-AMG launches the S 63 E Performance Edition 1 at ₹3.8 crore and the S 63 E Performance at ₹3.3 crore in India. The S 63 is essentially an S-Class with all the bells and whistles in terms of luxury, and a performance-focussed V8 plug-in hybrid drivetrain under the hood. The S 63 is available in India in the launch-specific Edition 1-spec, which cost ₹50 lakh more than the standard customisable S 63 E-Performance.
The Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance gets an AMG grille with vertical slats and the logo in the centre. It rides on 20-inch 10-spoke wheels as standard and the rear-end features a similar design as other ‘63’ models, with the trapezoid twin-tailpipes and the diffuser with fins. The S 63 E Performance Edition 1 gets additional styling tweaks – an AMG Night Package which gets blacked-out elements like the front and rear skirts, mirror caps, window weather strips and the tail-pipes. It also gets 21-inch matte black AMG forged wheels with red brake calipers, an exclusive Manufaktur alpine grey colour and a chrome fuel filler cap with AMG badging.
The Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance’s cabin gets a black and red seat upholstery in Nappa leather, carbonfibre inserts and an AMG Performance steering wheel which gets a mode change button with six modes – electric, comfort, battery hold, sport, sport+, slippery and individual. The MBUX infotainment system features various AMG and hybrid specific displays in the instrument cluster, infotainment system and the optional heads-up display. The Edition 1 additionally gets an AMG exclusive package with carbonfibre inserts, black and red seat upholstery in Nappa leather, AMG Performance steering wheel in Nappa leather, Edition 1 engraving on the centre console, illuminated door sills with AMG badging and AMG floor mats
The Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance gets a combination of an engine and a hybrid motor for strong performance and better fuel efficiency. It houses a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine and a hybrid motor that makes a combined 791bhp and 1430Nm, mated to a 9-speed MCT gearbox. 0 to 100kmph comes up in 3.3 seconds but the top speed is electronically limited at 250kmph. It gets a 13.1kWh battery with an all-electric WLTP range of 33kms
The Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance is priced at ₹3.3 crore and does not have any ICE rivals in this segment. BMW has taken a different approach and the only car that comes close to the S 63 E Performance in terms of luxury and performance is the BMW i7 M70 at ₹2.5 crore.
