Maruti Suzuki has launched the Fronx with prices starting from Rs 7.46 lakh for the 1.2-litre Dualjet and Rs 9.72 lakh for the 1.0-litre turbo Boosterjet. The Fronx is based on the Baleno but has SUV-inspired styling with elements borrowed from the Grand Vitara. This crossover is available in a total of 12 variants.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx exterior

The front fascia of the Fronx is heavily inspired by the Grand Vitara and gets similar headlamps and grille including chrome accents. It also gets black side cladding, a typical SUV-inspired styling element. On the side are 16-inch dual-tone alloys, roof rails, and chrome linings on the windows. The rear gets a spoiler and LED taillamps which are connected by a LED strip running across the width of the car. Maruti has given multiple accessory options for the Fronx including front and rear skid plates, red inserts for the front and rear bumpers, side skid plates, and side mouldings. For colours, you get seven monotone options and three dual-tone paint options which are only available for the top Alpha variant.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx interior

The interior of the Fronx is very closely related to the Baleno’s. The interior comes with a black and bordeaux colour scheme with silver inserts and the dashboard has a matte finish. The Fronx has multiple features like a head-up display with turn-by-turn navigation, a 360-degree camera, a wireless charger, and a 9-inch HD infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. You also get cruise control, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and an Arkamys sound system. What stands out here is that you can use the Suzuki Connect app to access door locks, remote AC control (AT only), headlamps, hazard lights, and alarm. There are options for seat covers, mats, and door sill guards which will cost you more.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx powertrain

The previously discontinued 1-litre turbo Boosterjet from the Baleno RS has been brought back for this car. The engine is also locally manufactured which makes it an economically viable option. The engine produces 99bhp and 148Nm of torque. Customers can choose between a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters. With the manual transmission, you get a claimed mileage of 21.50 km/l, and 20.01 km/l with the automatic transmission.

Maruti also offers the car with a 1.2 Dualjet engine which produces 66bhp and 113Nm of torque. This engine can be paired with a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AGS gearbox. This engine is slightly more efficient as compared to the 1-litre turbo as it gives a mileage of 21.79km/l with the manual transmission and 22.89km/l with the automatic.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx price and rivals

The Fronx comes with 12 different variants to choose from. Prices start from Rs 7.46 lakh (ex-showroom) and go up to Rs 13.13 lakh for the top Alpha variant. Maruti says you can also have the Fronx by paying an all-inclusive monthly subscription fee starting from Rs 17,378. The Fronx sits in an interesting space and has a wide spectrum of rivals. The traditional compact SUVs can be considered rivals, the likes of the Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, and Mahindra XUV300. You could also consider the Tata Punch, the soon-to-be-revealed C3 Aircross, and even the Ignis as rivals to the Fronx.
