Land Rover introduces the new Range Rover Sport SV, boasting a massive 626bhp and 750Nm of torque from its V8 making it the most powerful Range Rover ever. The Sport SV boasts several first-ever features, including updated styling and new technology.

The Sport comes with updated styling. The front is dominated by massive air intakes and a relatively smaller grille with sleek headlamps. The front end has been updated to make it more aerodynamic. Carbon fibre elements surround the grille and are seen on the front bumper blades, bonnet vents and side vents. The hood, now carbonfibre is also designed to be more aerodynamic and in combination with the optional 23-inch carbonfibre wheels (first in the world) and carbon ceramic brakes saves up to 76kg. The sides continue the rather sophisticated styling and you will continue to have the dual-tone paint theme with a blacked-out top. The back gets the Range Rover name spelt out between the two LED taillights with an ‘SV’ badge below. And at the bottom of all that you will see a quad-tailpipe setup.

The interior gets handcrafted leather upholstery with wood and metal accents to add a touch of elegance. Inside you continue to get the ‘world’s first’ treatment with translucent paddle shifters and a black ceramic gearshift in the centre console. A new drive mode called the ‘SV mode’ can be selected with a dedicated red button on the steering wheel. The satin carbonfibre seats with integrated headrests stand out with illuminated SV logos on the backrests. But that’s not all, the seats are called BASS (Body and Soul Seats) and they contain a set of speakers and transducers which vibrate depending on the music played through the 29-speaker, 1430-watt Meridian sound system. As a result, they can create an immersive audio experience as well as reduce stress and anxiety by lowering heart rate. The infotainment system sports a 13.1-inch floating glass display and the sidebars and sliders for volume and climate control are updated to make them easy to use. The brand states that up to 80 per cent of the tasks can be performed with just two taps of the infotainment screen.

For the first year, the new Sport SV will be sold excusively through invitations and the models will be called 'Edition One'

Another 'world's first' is the hydraulically interlinked 6D dynamic air suspension with height-adjustable air springs and pitch and roll control. It also eliminates the need for conventional anti-roll bars during cornering and maintains a near-level stance during acceleration and braking. This system also results in a loss of weight. The Sport SV comes with exclusive Brembo eight-piston callipers as standard and the front callipers are the biggest ever fitted on a Range Rover. As standard, you get mixed-metal dual-cast iron discs but you can get the optional carbon ceramic rotors which will further minimise the unsprung mass and improve handling and ride experience.

The car offers a host of features like all-wheel drive with all-wheel steering and torque vectoring. This is also the first time that a Range Rover comes with 305-section rear tyres. The front tyres are 285-section and as standard, you get Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 tyres.

Range Rover Sport SV powertrain

The car is powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo mild hybrid V8 petrol engine. At 626bhp and 750 Nm torque, the 2024 Sport SV is the most powerful Range Rover ever produced with 60bhp and 50Nm more than the previous iteration. This means that the SV can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 3.6 seconds and boasts a top speed of 290kmph. Mind you, the 0-100 time is for the ‘SV’ mode which sits above the existing ‘Dynamic mode’ and further optimises the steering, gearbox, throttle and suspension while reducing the ride height by 15mm. The car comes with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. In addition to this, the brand has also showcased an additional hybrid powertrain for the Range Rover.

Range Rover Sport SV price and rivals

Price has not been announced yet, but with all this new tech, expect it to be increased significantly. And even if you have that kind of money, you will not be able to buy it, at least for the first year because this car will be exclusively sold through invitations and the models are called ‘Edition One’. If you are one of the few lucky ones, your car will come with exclusive branding on the front splitter, centre console and puddle lamps. Every model will be tailored to the owner's preferences in terms of features, combinations, and finishes.

As for the rivals, being a performance-oriented model, the new Sport SV will compete with the performance SUV from other brands such as the DBX707 and Urus Performante.
