Just days after we heard news of bookings of the EV6 starting in India, Hyundai has announced that the Ioniq 5 will be launched in India. Hyundai is slowly ramping up things as India moves towards electrification and will soon have a two car EV portfolio with the Kona also on sale. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 will be underpinned by the E-GMP platform which will make its debut in India after it was globally unveiled last year.
The international-spec Ioniq 5 is offered with a choice of rear-wheel drive or an all-wheel drive setup backed by either a 58kWh or a 72.6kWh battery pack. The long-range 72.6kWh variant produces 301bhp and 605Nm of torque, which is capable of covering a 0-100kmph run in just 5.2 seconds. A 350kW fast charger will fill up the battery pack with electric juice from 10 to 80 per cent in just 18 minutes, enabling it to cover a distance of 470-480km according to the WLTP cycle. Whether Hyundai will offer us the long-range variant or the standard variant is anyone’s guess for now.
Unsoo Kim, MD and CEO, Hyundai India, said “As a customer centric brand, Hyundai is focusing very strongly on electric vehicles across its businesses and product range for a progressive and sustainable future. Hyundai is proud to receive the World Car of the Year 2022 for the Ioniq 5 as this award is a true testament to our vision and efforts in driving the adoption of BEVs globally. Hyundai Motor India has already committed to the expansion of its BEV lineup to six models by 2028, and today, with great pride, we are announcing the launch of the Ioniq 5 in CY 2022 in India. Powering up a new era of electric mobility, the Ioniq 5 is set to redefine the aspirations of customers that exceed in every sphere, elevating their mobility experiences beyond the conventional.”
