Ford has unveiled the Mustang Mach-E GT, a sportier version of its already performance-oriented electric SUV, the Mustang Mach-E. The Mustang Mach-E GT is available in standard and performance edition variants and gets a power bump of over 100bhp than the standard Mach-E. The Mach-E GT also gets a few styling tweaks and beefier hardware which add to its sporting credentials. With performance-oriented EVs becoming a talk of the auto industry, more and more automakers have been indulging in making their own recipes for the same and Ford with the Mach-E has followed suit.

Design

Mustangs have always been the epitome of American muscle. A performance car that doesn't only look good but also packs some serious heat as well. The Mustang’s over the years have evolved, yet have somehow retained the spirit of the classic and original beasts.

The new Mustang Mach-E GT gets revised front and rear bumpers, dark-finished grilles with and an illuminated logo that distinguishes it from the non-GT models.

Drivetrain & Chasis

It gets the 88kWh extended range battery pack from the standard variant. But if you were not satisfied with the power produced by the non-GT variants of the Mach-E, then fret not. Ford has pumped up the electric drivetrain. The new Mustang Mach-E GT gets a more powerful motor on the front axle and in total it pushes out a total of 473bhp and 813Nm of torque, more than 100bhp and 200Nm over the non-GT variants.

Naturally, the power increase would better the performance of the SUV as well, so now the EV does the 0-100kmph sprint in just 3.8 seconds, a whole second lesser than the most powerful standard variant — the eAWD Premium. Those figures are insane and similar to that of a sports car.

The Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition gets even more torque — 860Nm to be precise and does the 0-100kmph sprint in an even lesser time of 3.5 seconds. Adding on to the variety, the Mustang Mach-E GT and GT Performance Edition offer a range of 434km and 412km (on the EPA-cycle) respectively.

There are a few non-drivetrain related changes as well, like a sportier suspension which is set-up to handle the increased power and bigger 20-inch wheels as compared to the 18-inch or 19-inch ones available on the standard variant. Moreover, the GT models feature large front brake rotors, adaptive magnetorheological dampers and red-painted brake calipers.

Interior

Mustang Mach-E GT gets the massive 15.5-inch infotainment display

On the inside, although most things remain the same, the front gets performance seats and GT badging all around. Along with the large 15.5-inch infotainment display, with the 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and the rotary gear shifter dial that are brought over from the non-GT variants.

The Mustang Mach-E will be making its debut in India around March 2022 as a completely-built-unit (CBU), we do not know if the GT variant will find its way here, but we sure do hope that it does. For now, the GT models are available in the US at a price of USD 59,900 (Rs 45.22 lakh before Indian taxes and duties).
