Team Evo India

The Ferrari F80 takes centre stage in this month’s issue, showcasing Ferrari’s most powerful road car yet, with an astonishing 1183bhp from its hybrid V6 powertrain. As Ferrari’s once-in-a-decade flagship hypercar, the F80 breaks new ground with advanced aerodynamics, cutting-edge technology, and motorsport-derived engineering, all wrapped in a jaw-dropping design. With a staggering 0-100kmph time of just 2.15 seconds, it promises unmatched performance on both the road and track. We delve into the shift to a V6, the F80’s complex hybrid system, and how it compares to rivals like the latest McLaren W1.

As with every issue of evo India, we’ve packed something special inside – a stunning exclusive poster of the Ferrari F80 ready to grace your wall.

But that’s just the start! We’ve put the latest Mercedes-AMG G 63 through its paces, now featuring Active Ride Control suspension, making it an even more impressive engineering feat than before. From one outrageous SUV to another, we hop into the new Lamborghini Urus SE for some extreme sideways action. Plus, we’ve driven the electrifying BMW i5, which might just be the sporty 5 we’ve all been waiting for. The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class also makes its debut, and we dive deep into the generational updates before putting it against its fiercest rival, the BMW 5 Series. Who wins? Only one way to find out.

Among the latest launches, we take a look at the revamped Kia Carnival – more luxurious and more expensive than before, as well as two fresh variants of the Volkswagen Virtus, the GT Line and GT Plus Sport. The BYD eMAX 7 builds further on the e6 with more features and range. Maruti Suzuki’s safest car is here – the new Maruti Suzuki Dzire and we also drive the Mercedes-Benz EQB, now with an AMG Line kit and five seats. Mahindra has shaken things up with the aggressive pricing of the Thar Roxx, putting it head-to-head with mid-size SUVs. But is it worth choosing over the more refined Hyundai Creta? We’ve got the comparison you need.

After an intense month putting together the anniversary issue, Lenny heads for a much-needed retreat near Pawna Lake with the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, while Prashant takes the Volvo XC60 to Atmantan for some wellness therapy. If you’re looking for a larger SUV, check out our Half Price Heroes section, where we guide you through buying a used Toyota Fortuner. In the tuned cars section, we feature a heavily modified Maruti Suzuki Jimny that’s trying hard to channel a vintage Ford Bronco.

We also cover all the major reveals from the 2024 EICMA show and the latest developments in the booming Indian two-wheeler market. The Gold Star 650 has been making waves, and we’ve taken it to the track to meet its iconic ancestors while delving into the rich history of the brand. Royal Enfield is back with another 650cc bike, this time with a scrambler attitude.

The complete lowdown on Ferrari's new hypercar, the F80

Ferrari F80

In the heart of the Ferrari F80 lies a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6, paired with three electric motors to deliver a mind-bending 1183bhp. This hybrid setup is a departure from Ferrari’s traditional V12 engines, but it’s far from a compromise. Borrowing technology from Ferrari’s Le Mans-winning 499P prototype, the F80’s powertrain is engineered for peak performance coupled with clever aerodynamics and weight-saving innovations. But is it enough to step into the shoes of the now iconic LaFerrari?

We pitted the Mahindra Thar Roxx against the Hyundai Creta

Mahindra Thar Roxx v Hyundai Creta

Each of these represents distinct philosophies in the SUV world. The Thar Roxx, with its rugged body-on-frame chassis and commanding presence, delivers a thrilling, off-road-ready experience that appeals to the heart. Its aggressive pricing, bold design, and immense popularity make it a standout. Meanwhile, the Hyundai Creta, the benchmark of the mid-size SUV segment, offers refined monocoque construction, superior ride comfort, and urban-friendly sophistication. Can the Roxx beat the Creta? A clear verdict in this comparison test!

We've driven the 11th-gen Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Building on its legacy, the new 11th-gen E-Class features a refined exterior and a more luxurious interior. As part of the upgrades, there’s a larger MBUX infotainment screen, rear seats that recline, and a smoother ride with suspension tuning. Outside, there are flush door handles and updated headlights. With these, the E-Class continues to set the benchmark, now more than ever.

How does the new E-Class stack up against the BMW 5 Series?

Mercedes-Benz E-Class v BMW 5 Series

The battle between the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the BMW 5 Series has always been one of luxury versus performance. While Mercedes has long set the standard with its plush, chauffeur-focused features and cutting-edge technology, BMW has always traditional been about a more engaging drive and higher performance. However, with a renewed focus on comfort, and long-wheelbase-only availability, the 5 Series is challenging the E-Class like never before. Does it succeed?

Drifting the Lamborghini Urus SE at the Nardo proving grounds

Lamborghini Urus SE

Lamborghini's latest creation pushes the boundaries of what a luxury SUV can do. It combines the raw power of a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with a hybrid system, producing a combined 789bhp and 950Nm of torque. This hybrid powertrain not only makes the Urus SE faster and more efficient but also delivers insane drifting abilities and impressive off-road performance. And that’s exactly what we explored when we visited the legendary Nardo proving ground in southern Italy.

Driving the new Mercedes-AMG G 63 with an active suspension system

Mercedes-AMG G 63

The Mercedes-AMG G 63 may look the same, but the W465 generation brings crucial changes, most notably an active suspension system that transforms its handling and ride quality. While it retains the iconic boxy design and familiar features like exposed door hinges, the G 63 now has a much-needed touchscreen, mild-hybrid tech adding 20bhp to its 577bhp V8 engine, and a much improved driving experience. Starting at ₹3.6 crore, the G 63 remains an ultra-exclusive, ultra-desirable SUV.

The Kia Carnival sets a new benchmark for comfort

Kia Carnival

Ignoring the price for a moment, the new Kia Carnival sets a new benchmark for comfort, particularly for rear-seat passengers. With its adjustable armchairs featuring heating, cooling, and recline functions, it offers an unparalleled back seat experience. The performance and ride quality are also tuned to match. But the real question remains – does all this justify the ₹63.9 lakh price tag Kia is asking?

We have driven the BMW i5 M60 sedan

BMW i5

Packing 593bhp and 820Nm with launch control, the new i5 sprints to 100kmph in just 3.8 seconds, outpacing many traditional sedans. Moreover, it retains the core dynamics of a 5 Series with a shorter wheelbase, rear-wheel steering, and responsive handling. If you take it calmly though, the 83.9kWh battery promises a 516km WLTP range and the interior too promises a luxury experience. ₹1.2 crore crore for a near 600bhp BMW is a steal deal.

A luxury retreat to the hills with the Mercedes-Benz C300

Mercedes-Benz C300 to Shillim

Merc says the new C 300 is designed to make driving in India stress-free while maintaining luxury and performance. And in a bid to test that, we did a journey from Pune to the tranquil retreat of Dharana at Shillim, where the C 300’s India-specific tweaks, like raised suspension and tuned dampers, shine on rough, unpredictable roads. While the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, paired with Sport+ mode, delivers an exhilarating drive, features like a Burmester sound system and ventilated seats create a cocoon of comfort inside. Perfect then, for a luxury retreat to the hills.
