Porsche Cayenne Coupe to be launched on December 13

The sleeker version of the Cayenne gets tweaked styling and more standard equipment

The Cayenne Coupe was shown to the world earlier this year and it is docking on our shores on December 13. The Coupe gets more standard equipment as opposed to the standard Cayenne like the Sports seats at the back, the panoramic glass roof, reversing camera and the Sports Chrono Package. It also gets a host of exclusive options like a carbonfibre roof. Internationally the Cayenne Coupe comes in standard, E-Hybrid, S, Turbo and Turbo S E-Hybrid flavours. We are expected to get the standard Cayenne Coupe and Turbo variants, with an E-Hybrid coming later.

Mechanicals

The standard car comes with a 3-litre V6 that produces 335bhp and 450Nm and can sprint from 0 to 100kmph in six seconds flat with a top speed of 243kmph, adequate as Porsche would say. If its speed you’re after though, the Turbo with its fire-breathing twin-turbo V8 making 542bhp and 770Nm of torque propelling it to 100 in just 3.9 seconds and onto a top speed of 286kmph! For the tree-huggers, there is an E-Hybrid variant that makes 455bhp and 700Nm of torque from the same V6 as the standard car but gets hybrid assistance to shoot it to 100 in 5.1 seconds with a top whack of 253kmph. All Cayenne Coupes will come mated to the eight-speed Tiptronic S gearbox.

Cosmetics

The Coupe gets a host of small changes that contribute to its overall sleeker profile. The changes start from the A pillar which is lower and it has a more raked windscreen, the roof itself is lower by 20mm. The rear is where the bulk of the changes are though —  the roofline comes down to meet the boot-lid which also houses an active spoiler. The Cayenne Coupe is also wider than the standard Cayenne, by 18mm at the rear doors and flanks and gets a wider track as well. From the front, its hard to tell it apart from the standard Cayenne but in profile, and from the rear, the sloping roof is a dead giveaway. It should also be said that this is one of the better executed sloping roofline SUVs out there.

Equipment

A lot of equipment that is optional on the regular Cayenne is standard on the Cayenne Coupe. The Coupe gets the panoramic sunroof as standard, Porsche Active Stability Management, rear view camera, eight-way adjustable sports seats in the front and sports seats at the rear as well, with an option to revert to the standard three seat bench setup at no extra cost.
In addition to this, it gets a few exclusive options like the carbonfibre roof, part of the optional lightweight sports package that also includes 22-inch lightweight forged aluminium rims, carbonfibre and Alcantara on the inside and a retro-esque checked pattern on the seats. The Cayenne Coupe, like the standard car, also has the (expensive) option of rear wheel steering that adds to the sporty feeling of the car, making it shrink around you through corners.

The rest of the Cayenne Coupe remains largely similar to the standard car, it gets the same equipment and technology on the inside and the same underpinnings. It will be priced slightly higher than the standard Cayenne, we expect it to start at around Rs 1.5 Crore when it launches next month with the Turbo priced closer to Rs 2 Crore.

We recently drove the Cayenne Coupe Turbo in the south of France, read our first impressions here.
