In one fell swoop, BMW Motorrad has launched not one, but three motorcycles! BMW Motorrad has added three new motorcycles to its adventure lineup, starting with the F 850 GS, which has been launched at a price of Rs 12.50 lakh, followed by the F 850 GS Adventure which can be had for Rs 13.25 lakh, and lastly the F 900 XR priced at Rs 12.30 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). The Bavarian bike maker has confirmed deliveries of all three motorcycles will begin from June 2022.

BMW F 850 GS & F 850 GS Adventure

The F 850 GS is back after nearly two years

The BMW F 850 GS has made a comeback in the Indian market two years after it was discontinued at the onset of BS6 norms. The F 850 GS and F 850 GS Adventure are both powered by an 853cc parallel twin engine that puts out 93bhp at 8250rpm and 92Nm of torque — an increase of 4.5bhp and 6Nm over the outgoing motorcycle. The F 850 GS and the will be offered solely in the Pro trim with the Racing Blue Metallic paint scheme, while the Adventure gives you two options to choose from — Kalamata Metallic Black, and Black Storm Metallic. The motorcycle is underpinned by a bridge-type frame, which hangs off of 43mm USD forks up front and a monoshock at the rear with rebound and preload adjustability. Suspension travel stands at 230mm and 215mm at the front and rear respectively. The F 850 GS receives a 21-inch wheel up front and a 17-inch wheel at the rear. Braking duties are performed by 305mm floating twin discs with floating dual-piston calipers at the front, and a 265mm disc with a single-piston caliper at the rear.

Some of the standard equipment the F 850 GS receives include ABS, stability control, two riding modes (Road and Rain), adjustable levers, an on-board computer and a 12V power socket. Other optional features include a 6.5-inch TFT cluster, smartphone connectivity, traction control, three riding modes (Enduro, Pro, and Enduro Pro), electronic suspension adjustability, keyless system and more.

BMW F 900 XR

The 2022 F 900 XR remains visually and mechanically identical to the outgoing motorcycle

The BMW F 900 XR has been updated for 2022 with a drop in prices. Now available only in the Pro variant, the F 900 XR has become more affordable by Rs 10,000. The F 900 XR retains the same design, equipment, and even the mechanicals as before. It uses a bridge frame with the engine as a stressed member. The engine is an 895cc unit which puts out 103.2bhp at 8500rpm and 92Nm of torque at 6500rpm. Suspension duties are taken care of by 43mm USD forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear with rebound adjustability. Electronic adjustability will be offered as an option. The F 900 XR sports 17-inch wheels on both ends. It uses 320mm twin floating discs with four-pot calipers at the front and a 265mm disc with a single-piston caliper at the rear. Wheel travel stands at 170mm and 172mm at the front and rear respectively.

In terms of the equipment, the F 900 XR receives a 6.5-inch TFT display, adjustable windscreen and levers, smartphone connectivity, engine braking control, riding modes, traction control, engine drag torque control, adaptive cornering lights, keyless system and more.

The F 850 GS and F 850 GS Adventure go up against the Triumph Tiger 900 and the Honda Africa Twin, while the F 900 XR goes up against the Ducati Multistrada 950S. There’s more to look forward from BMW Motorrad, as it is also bringing in the K 1600 range of motorcycles very soon.
