BMW 5 Series Carbon Edition launched, prices start from Rs 66.3 lakh

The BMW 5 Series Carbon Edition gets dark treatment on the exterior along with the interior and is available in a petrol-only guise

BMW has added a new variant to the 5 Series lineup in India at a slight price hike over the standard 5 Series. The BMW 5 Series Carbon Edition receives changes to the design elements, but it remains identical to the standard 530i in terms of mechanicals, which means it will be offered solely with the 2-litre turbo-petrol engine. It will also receive similar levels of equipment as the standard 5 Series.

BMW 5 Series Carbon Edition Design

The 5 Series was always a gorgeous looking car, and the BMW 5 Series Carbon Edition continues the same theme. It receives a new Alpine White shade, along with certain elements finished in carbonfibre, such as the kidney grille, front splitter, rear spoiler, and the rearview mirrors. Additionally, the 18-inch wheels are also finished in Jet Black, and it sports Pirelli Sport 4 ZP tyres. The sleek headlights are all-LED units, as are the tail lamps with an L-shaped pattern.

BMW 5 Series Carbon Edition Powertrain

Underneath the hood lies a 2-litre turbo petrol from the standard 530i

The BMW 5 Series Carbon Edition is powered by a 2-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine which produces 248bhp at 5200-6500rpm and 350Nm of torque at 1450-4800rpm. This powerplant is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, the 5 Series Carbon Edition is capable of doing a 0-100kmph run in 6.1 seconds, maxing out at a top speed of 250kmph.

BMW 5 Series Carbon Edition Interiors and Equipment

The interiors of the BMW 5 Series Carbon Edition follow the dark theme as seen on the exterior elements, and receive the perforated Sensatec trim now finished in a combination of Cognac and Black. In terms of equipment and features, the Carbon Edition is nearly identical to the regular 530i M Sport. The Carbon Edition gets BMW Live Cockpit Professional equipped with BMW Operating System 7 and a 12.3-inch digital display. Additionally, it also receives 3D Navigation, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, BMW Gesture Control, BMW Virtual Assistant, and a 16 speaker Harman Kardon surround system among many others. The driver assistance system includes Parking Assist with Surround View Camera, Reverse Assist, and Remote-Control Park function.

There’s also the BMW Safety Suite which includes six airbags attentiveness assist, dynamic stability control, dynamic traction control, electronic differential lock control, cornering brake control, and auto-hold electronic handbrake among others.

BMW 5 Series Prices and Rivals

The BMW 5 Series Carbon Edition commands a hefty premium over the standard 5 Series

The BMW 5 Series Carbon Edition commands a premium of Rs 2.9 lakh over the standard 5 Series, and is priced at Rs 66.3 lakh. Though the Carbon Edition itself does not have any direct rivals, the 5 Series generally goes up against the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Audi A6, and the Volvo S90 that just received an upgrade recently.
