Benelli India has had a busy year with the launch of the BS6 TRK 502X, and the 502C. Adding to that list is the new Benelli TRK 251 that has just been launched, with prices starting from Rs 2.51 lakh. The TRK 251 is a smaller, more affordable option for customers to gain entry to the 250cc adventure motorcycle space. Given its price and output figures, it’s evident that the Benelli TRK 251 has the KTM Adventure 250 in its sights, but it could also pose a threat to the Royal Enfield Himalayan and the BMW G310GS.

Benelli TRK 251 Styling

At first glance, and based solely on pictures (for now), it’s obvious that the TRK 251 looks like a baby TRK 502, and that’s not a bad thing. The beak-type front fascia is there, but it looks a lot less bulkier than its bigger siblings. This adventure motorcycle also gets the same 17-inch wheels but with different tyre profiles. From the side and the rear as well, things seem a lot less bulkier than the TRK 502. The tail lamp is a smaller, thinner unit, and the TRK 251 comes with a thinner upswept exhaust. Since the pictures suggest the Benelli TRK 251 packs a lot less mass than its bigger siblings, we assume it should be easier to ride in traffic, but a proper road test shall confirm that. The TRK 251 will be offered with three paint schemes — White, Black, and Grey.

Benelli TRK 251 Powertrain and Chassis

The Benelli TRK 251 is underpinned by a tubular steel trellis frame, and it’s powered by a 249cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled powertrain which is paired to a six-speed transmission. Power and torque output figures stand at 25.4bhp at 9250rpm and 21.1Nm at 8000rpm. The TRK 251 sports a 110/70R17 at the front, and a 150/60R17 at the rear — same wheel sizes as the TRK 502, but a thinner tyre profile. In terms of the suspension, the front receives USD forks, while the rear gets an oil-damped monoshock. Suspension travel stands at 135mm and 51mm for the front and rear respectively. The Benelli TRK 251 relies on a four-piston caliper mounted on a 280mm petal-disc up front and a 240mm disc at the rear to bring it to a halt.

The 18-litre fuel tank should be enough to satiate your hunger for longer trips, which is nearly 4.5-litres larger than the one on the KTM 250 Adventure. Ground clearance stands at 170mm, while the seat height is at 800mm.

Benelli TRK 251 Features

There’s not a lot in terms of equipment, but the Benelli TRK 251 does receive dual-channel ABS, a fully-digital instrument cluster, adjustable clutch and brake levers, and a 5V USB charging socket. Benelli will also provide luggage boxes as part of an accessories package.

Benelli TRK 251 Prices and Rivals

A starting price of Rs 2.51 lakh makes the TRK 251 more expensive than the Himalayan and the Adventure 250

With prices starting from Rs 2.51 lakh (all prices ex-showroom), the Benelli TRK 251 competes directly against the KTM Adventure 250 (Rs 2.35 lakh), Royal Enfield Himalayan (Rs 2.45 lakh), and the BMW G310GS (Rs 3 lakh). A 250cc adventure motorcycle battle like this should be an interesting prospect. Let’s wait for a review, which should happen soon enough.
