Swedish electric vehicle manufacturer Polestar has unveiled its fastest production car — the Polestar 4 at the Shanghai Auto Show. The car will come in two variants, each sharing the same 102kWh battery. In terms of size and cost, Polestar 4 falls between Polestar 2 and Polestar 3.

Polestar 4 exteriors

Polestar has incorporated the aerodynamics of a coupé and the space of an SUV while designing the Polestar 4. The standard full-length glass roof comes with optional electrochromic capabilities that allow for opaque or transparent execution. The elimination of the rear window has further enabled the glass roof to be stretched beyond the rear passengers’ heads.

The aerodynamic efficiency is taken care of by the low-set nose, the retractable door handles, and the flush doors with frameless windows. With a 3-metre wheelbase, the Polestar 4 is a D-segment SUV built on what Polestar calls ‘Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA)’. Depending on the version, the wheels range in size from 20 to 22 inches.

Polestar 4 interiors

The interiors of the Polestar 4 draw inspiration from the fashion and sportswear industries. The interior now features bio-attributed MicroTech vinyl, animal welfare-assured Nappa leather upholstery, and a tailored knit fabric made entirely of recycled PET.

In the Polestar 4, the rear-view mirrors have been swapped for a high-definition screen that broadcasts feeds from a roof-mounted camera. This digital feed can be deactivated at the driver’s convenience. To improve the back seat ride quality even more, ambient lighting ‘inspired by the solar system’ will be used.

The 15.4-inch horizontally stacked infotainment system is powered by Android Automotive OS, and the car encompasses Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play to make the driving experience effortless and pleasurable. An optional 12-speaker, 1,400-Watt channel-hybrid amplifier Harman Kardon audio system is offered. With the optional Nappa Pack, two more headrest speakers are added to each front seat, bringing the total to 16. There is, of course, Apple CarPlay.

Polestar 4 drivetrains

The Polestar 4 SUV coupé will come in dual and single-motor configurations. The dual motors, which have a range of 560km will churn out 537bhp and 686Nm of torque while attaining a 0-100 speed in 3.8 seconds. The single-motor variant would produce 268bhp and 343Nm of torque but would have an increased range of 600km. Both the dual and single motors will be powered by a 102kWh battery that has a 0-100% charging time of 5.5 hours.
