Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch the highly anticipated 5-door Jimny in India on June 7. The Jimny will succeed the legendary Gypsy, which has garnered a significant fan base over the years. The new generation Jimny has been on sale in international markets since 2018, as a 3-door SUV.
Beyond the stock version, the Jimny has been modified by many tuning firms. These modifications range from G-Wagon clones to one of the most powerful versions on the planet, showcasing the incredible creativity of car enthusiasts globally. Here is a list of five exceptional examples of this off-road SUV from around the world.
By now, you know what a stock Jimny looks like. But what would say to a Jimny which has been modded to look like Brabus-tuned G-Wagon? Meet this Jimny, which has undergone serious modifications to look like a Brabus 800. Mind you, it is still a Jimny under the skin. So there is the same 1.5-litre nat-asp inline-four petrol engine, mated to a four-speed automatic gearbox. This Jimny was purchased in Dubai and was modified by a tuner. The uncanny resemblance of this modified Jimny to the Brabus 800 is mind-bending, except for the fact that this Jimny is a three-door model. The SUV is finished in Nardo Grey and has 18-inch Brabus-badged allow wheels, LED headlamps, G-Wagon style side exhausts, boxy wheel arches, Brabus-badged grille, and the iconic G-Wagon style indicators on the front fenders. The interior is wrapped in orange leather and is way better than the standard Jimny. There is a Brabus-branded carbonfibre and leather-wrapped steering wheel as well. This G-Wagon style Jimny is gorgeous both on the inside and outside.
Famous Japanese tuning firm Liberty Walk also took the opportunity to make the Jimny look reminiscent of the famous Mercedes-Benz G-Class. However, compared to the Brabus-inspired Jimny mod from the above, this one is a little different and more aggressive looking. The Liberty Walk Jimny has a gloss-black exterior with revamped front bumper, front grille, redesigned LED headlights, a set of 16-inch custom wheels, LED foglights, a rear wing, a front roof spoiler and a carbon bonnet hood. The hood also has a large scoop for added engine cooling. Liberty Walk has also added a G-Wagon style quad side exhaust from Fi Exhaust. This heavily modified Jimny will give you the Mercedes-AMG G63 vibes both on the outside and inside. Inside the cabin, not much has been changed, except for the blacked-out leather seats with “LBWK” badging below the headrests, and a carbonfibre flat-bottom steering wheel.
Ever thought about the Jimny with a racecar-like appearance? This is exactly what ESB Customs from Japan did to the Jimny. While most tuners tried to make the Jimny look like a G-Wagon, ESB Customs lowered the springs by 90mm, added an aggressive widebody kit, 16-inch aftermarket alloy wheels, a wider set of rubber, and an aftermarket exhaust system. The exterior is painted in white, except for the grille. In addition to that, this Jimny also has a CLS Barrel aero kit which includes an aggressive front bumper with brake cooling vents on the sides, and a body-coloured covering above the grille to give the Jimny an angrier look. On the interior, this race-inspired Jimny has an aftermarket steering wheel and a custom upholstery. However, the images of the cabin are not available at the moment.
Yes, the Jimny has been converted into a monster truck as well. However, this time, a bunch of students from the Nihon Automobile College in Japan made the effort to do something wacky like this. The Jimny monster truck is based on a three-door Jimny and was showcased at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon. The students made the effort to add two more doors by stretching the body and roof behind the B-pillar. As expected from a monster truck, the suspension has been raised extensively and this modded Jimny rides on a set of 17-inch steel wheels wrapped in Toyo off-road rubber. There is an external roll cage with a roof rack, a tent, and a roof-mounted LED light bar. There are many exposed parts to be seen with this custom Jimny build, but unlike the above Jimny modifications, this was done by students as part of a project.
Of all the above Jimny mods, this Autoplus-tuned Jimny is rather sober-looking, but it is quite different in ways which will make you tilt towards it. Philippines-based Auto Plus Sportzentrium worked on a Jimny, mostly on the engine. The 1.5-litre nat-asp engine gains a custom-made turbo kit from UAE’s F-Performance which almost doubles the standard output to 200bhp. Also, the engine features a custom fuel injection system, custom air intake and an upgraded ECU. This makes it the most powerful Jimny, yet. This modified Jimny has also an aftermarket RSR suspension, AP Racing brakes, a roof spoiler, a set of 18-inch wheels, and an in-house developed free-flow side exhaust system. On the inside, Autoplus has installed Recaro seats, along with an upgraded sound system from Pioneer.
The five-door Jimny is all set to launch in India and will be exported to other international markets. While car modifications are not legally encouraged in the country, we could see more of these crazy mods outside of the country in the coming months and years. That said, If we missed any of the popular Jimny builds, let us know in the comments below.
