2025 Lucid Gravity breaks cover

The Gravity marks Lucid’s entry into the electric luxury SUV arena

Mandar Savant

The hotly anticipated Lucid Gravity is finally here. It’s the American marque’s first electric SUV. It's as quick as a Lamborghini Huracan, can seat up to seven and gets a really cool feature, the likes of which we’ve never seen before! While Lucid hasn’t given away its full details yet, here’s what you need to know about the Gravity for now.

Lucid Gravity styling

With styling inspired by its sedan sibling, the Air, the Lucid Gravity looks stunning. It looks futuristic while being minimal, smooth and sleek, with a raked roofline that subtly tapers into a tail spoiler. The Gravity boasts a split-headlight setup, a thin light bar, quad LED DRLs and vertical turn indicators upfront. It gets two grilles — a small unit under the lightbar and a larger unit housed below on the front bumper. In profile, the SUV boasts a prominent shoulder line and haunches, flush door handles, a chrome door sill garnish and large 23-inch alloy wheels. Its charge port is housed on the front fender. At the rear, the Gravity gets a clamshell trunk, with a full-width lightbar and really cool looking tail lights.

The Gravity will be offered in nine colours that consist of six carryover Air sedan colours plus Aurora Green, Lunar Titanium, and Supernova Bronze.

Lucid Gravity interior

The interior of the Gravity is just as cool and futuristic as its exterior styling. It gets a huge, curved OLED digital cluster that extends all the way till the centre of the dashboard to display maps. The unit also gets touch sections on the left side, to control your lock/unlock, headlights and windscreen wiper functions. The primary infotainment touchscreen sits below on the dashboard. It's a floating unit with physical buttons and a media volume control scroller at its bottom. The Gravity gets a squared off, ‘squaricle’ steering wheel with a short upper section for the driver to get an unobstructed view of the cluster. The unit features two touchpads on either side of which can be used to control the cluster as well as the infotainment. A big talking point of the Gravity is its windscreen which extends all the into till the centre of its roof. This is done in a bid to make the cabin feel roomier and allows for a panoramic view of the front. The launch edition of the Gravity (dubbed the Dream Edition) that you see in the pictures above gets a glass centre console cover and bespoke badging. The Gravity gets four interior themes — Mojave, Tahoe, Yosemite and Ojai. Of these, two feature vegetable-tanned nappa leather, while the other are non-leather choices.

The Gravity is available in either a five- or a seven-seat layout. And it gets a really cool feature, seats even in the frunk! When the car is stationary, you can pop the hood and deploy the two accessory seat cushions fitted in there for use. How cool is that? We’ve seen deployable rear-facing seats in the trunk on cars like the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Range Rover, but this is an industry first.

Lucid Gravity powertrain

The Gravity will be underpinned by Lucid’s 900-Volt electric architecture that also does duties in the Air. All variants of the Gravity will get a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup. Lucid says that the highest performing variant will boast over 800bhp and deliver range "in excess of 708km on a single charger" and will be capable of doing the 0-100kmph run in under 3.5 seconds. The Gravity will support ultra fast DC charging which will enable 320km range addition in just 15 minutes. The Lucid Gravity also has a towing capacity of 2.7-tonnes.

Lucid Gravity price and rivals

Pricing for the Lucid Gravity will start at under USD 80,000 (Rs 66.6 lakh) when it eventually comes to the US market in late 2024. It will rival the likes of the Rivian R1S, Tesla Model X, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV and BMW iX.
