The Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 has made a comeback in the Indian market after a two year hiatus. Launched at Rs 3.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) the Alto K10 gets a fresh face, a new engine under the hood and improved interiors to make it more appealing to the buyers. The 2022 Alto K10 is available in four variants — STD, LXI, VXI and the range topping VXI+. It is underpinned by the fifth-gen HEARTECT platform and gets the option of either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AGS transmission on its top two variants.
The Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 has received a completely new exterior for the 2022 model year, with this car being completely developed in India itself. It is bigger than its predecessor in terms of overall dimensions and that should result in more space on the inside. It gets a huge blackened grille, with hexagonal elements, at the front which is flanked by bigger halogen headlights on either side. Over to the sides, the new Alto K10 gets a very noticeably shoulder line in comparison to its predecessor. It rides on 13-inch steel wheels with wheel covers, there are no alloy wheels available, not even as an option. At the back, the new Alto K10 gets smaller tail lights than before and overall it looks very similar to the current Celerio.
The styling changes continue on the inside with the new Alto K10 now boasting a dashboard that is more upright. It gets Maruti’s all-new 7-inch ‘SmartPlay’ touchscreen infotainment system which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The next big change is the steering wheel, borrowed from the Celerio, featuring controls for the infotainment system. The front power window switches are mounted under this infotainment system, similar to the S-Presso and the current Celerio. The Alto K10 also gets a bespoke digital instrument cluster too. More kit includes a four-speaker audio system and on the safety front the Alto K10 gets dual-airbags, ABS, EBD, rear parking sensors and front seatbelt pretensioners. Maruti is also offering two accessory packages — ‘Glinto’ and 'Impacto’ which bring several exterior cosmetic updates with the former focused on chrome while the latter getting contrast orange elements. The new Alto K10 gets the option of six colours as well.
The 2022 Alto K10 gets a new powerplant under its hood. Maruti’s new 1-litre DualJet naturally aspirated petrol engine which also calls the new Celerio home. It churns out 66bhp and 89Nm of torque and you have the option to pair it to either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AGS transmission. The brand claims that it can deliver 23.9kmpl with the AGS and 23.3kmpl with the manual, making it one of the most fuel-efficient cars on sale in India today. Maruti says a CNG version of the new Alto K10 is on the charts too.
Priced at Rs 3.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) the new Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 rivals the likes of the Renault Kwid, the Hyundai Santro and even its own sibling the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso. It continues to boast brilliant fuel-efficiency and is now better equipped than before. But still unlike its rivals it misses out on some features like LED DRLs, alloy wheels and even a rear wiper. With that in mind, what are your thoughts on the new Alto K10? Would you choose it over its rivals?
