The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is due for an update later this year, a pretty big one at that. We have been seeing spy shots of the luxo-barge with heavy camouflage for quite a while. About two weeks ago a huge leak showed off the full car inside and out, without any covering. However, the quality of the photos gave an underwhelming first impression of the 2021 S-Class.
The official teaser looks much more pleasing. The headlights have a very slim profile as compared to the outgoing model, and feature three distinct elements. These elements have already trickled down to the E-Class with two, instead of three elements. Expect the C-Class to get a similar treatment but further reduce the count to one, as a diversifying feature. The blue inserts also make clear that these will be equipped with laser light technology. Overall, the front-end is much more modern than the outgoing one with simple clean lines.
Ola Källenius, Chairman, Board of Management of Daimler AG said the new S-Class will be a “technological tour de force.” and went on to praise the outgoing model but said “the new S-Class will be special.” We don’t doubt it. The S-Class has always been the benchmark for luxury saloons, year after year. Sure, the spy shots may have divided opinion, in the flesh the new S-Class will likely be a stunner. With the launch set for the second half of 2020, we'll find out soon enough.
