Hyundai has driven in the 2019 Elantra at Rs 15.89 lakh, ex-showroom, India. This is the third launch in the past four days as carmakers are looking to boost their sales with the festive season right around the corner. The Elantra is Hyundai’s premium sedan which now gets a host of upgrades in design, powertrain and features as well. The sedan rivals the Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla Altis and the Honda Civic.
The 2019 Elantra now adheres to the brand’s latest design language with a sharper front end. Hyundai’s signature hexagonal grille is now upgraded and the sedan now sports quad projector LED headlamps with LED DRLs which the brand claims are best in segment. On the side, the alloys are now 10-spoke R16 units and there’s a new chrome strip running along the sedan’s beltline adding a touch of premiumness to its overall appeal. At the rear, the Elantra gets new LED taillamps and the Elantra badging is just below the Hyundai logo, following the same pattern of the Venue and the Grand i10 NIOS.

The very first upgrade that comes to notice on the inside is the dual tone beige and black interior. The older car had an all black cabin with a silver strip running across the dash. The biggest talking point of the new Elantra is its Bluelink connectivity system. It’s the first connected car in the segment and Bluelink brings over 30 connectivity features to the table. Bluelink allows you to access a host of features via the Bluelink smartphone app – start/stop the engine, set the climate control, locate the car, check vehicle health, geo-fencing, create health reports, amongst many more.
There’s also a new instrument cluster with coloured display, segment first wireless charging and a premium eight-speaker Infinity sound system. Also, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are a standard offering. The Elantra also gets ventilated seats and electric sunroof among other premium features.
Powering the Elantra is the same 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, petrol engine that produces 150bhp at 6200rpm and 192Nm of torque at 4000rpm. It can be mated to either a 6-speed manual or an automatic transmission. Most importantly, this engine is now BS6 compliant. The Elantra is currently being offered only with a petrol engine and Hyundai will introduce a diesel option sometime in 2020.
On the safety front the Elantra comes fully loaded right from the base S variant. It gets a standard safety equipment list of 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, impact and speed sensing auto door lock and unlock, front seatbelt pretensioners, and disc brakes on all wheels. The top end SX and SX (O) variants also get Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC) and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
Moreover, Hyundai is offering a three-year BlueLink subscription along with the standard 3-year/unlimited kilometre warranty pack, which includes roadside assistance and free maintenance up to three years or 30,000km.
