With more than a tonne of armour plates and glass, the Sentinel catapults from nought to 100 in 10.4 seconds. This juggernaut’s top speed is limited to 193kmph. The new car boasts improved cabin space, enhanced headroom and seating over the previous generation.

The body is designed to withstand attacks including that of improvised explosive device fragmentation blasts. The specially manufactured wheels are designed to run-flat so that the vehicle can be driven over the distances of more than 50kmph at the speed of 80kmph, if a tyre is damaged. The Sentinel comes with armoured glass to protect the occupants from an attack. The company also offers a specially configured window option that drops the window for document delivery. For addressing people outside the car, it features a public address system.

Michael van der Sande, managing director, Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations, said: “The Range Rover Sentinel delivers the exceptional protection and security required by our VIP clients without compromising the superior refinement of the latest Range Rover. The addition of the more powerful 5.0 l Supercharged V8 engine and a redesigned interior ensures a heightened level of performance and occupant safety.”

Other popular brand to offer armoured vehicles is Mercedes with their E-guard lineup which offers similar protection.
