Jaguar recently announced a move to go all-electric by 2025, with many electrified models to come soon. The company has already given international markets a taste of this electric future by introducing the I-Pace back in 2018. Now, Jaguar has brought the I-Pace to India. It comes in a total of three variants, is available only in a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup and gets a whole lot of tech as standard.

Jaguar I-Pace exterior

The Jaguar I-Pace is smooth and sleek on the outside, to give it a better drag coefficient (0.29), thus helping increase its range. There are slim LED headlights upfront (Matrix LED units are optional on the S variant, standard on HSE), and a faux grille but one that has vents integrated to smoothen airflow, helped by two vents on the lower half as well. The side profile is unique thanks to a raked rear windscreen and a tiny bootlid, it also gets 19-inch rims as standard across all variants. The rear is unmistakably Jaguar, with taillights similar to the XE and a few cuts and creases to make it look sportier.

The exterior looks can be tweaked by way of the three styling packs on offer — a Carbon Fibre Exterior Pack, Black Exterior Pack and Bright Exterior Pack. And there are a total of 12 exterior colours to choose from.

In terms of dimensions, the I-Pace measures 4682mm, 2139mm and 1566mm in length, width and height, respectively. It sits on Jaguar Land Rover’s D7e platform, a variant of the D7 Premium Lightweight Architecture platform underpinning the Land Rover Discovery Sport, Jaguar XE and a host of other JLR vehicles. The D7e gets a few changes which allow for better packaging of the electric powertrain components, including the ability to position the battery pack in the floor and free up more cabin space.

Jaguar I-Pace Interior

On the inside, the Jaguar I-Pace gets a tech-laden interior at the centre of which sits the dual 10-inch and 5.5-inch touchscreens, powered by the new Pivi Pro software. The upper touchscreen is the infotainment display while the lower one controls the HVAC and the drive modes. There is a 400-watt 12-speaker Meridian sound system as standard, or you could opt for the 750-watt Meridian 3D Surround Sound system with 16 speakers and a subwoofer. You do get a lot of kit standard though, including two-zone climate control (four-zone is optional), eight-way adjustable semi-powered front seats, smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a 360-degree camera system, among others.

The top-spec HSE variant gets a much bigger equipment list, including 16-way fully electric, heated and cooled front seats, a head-up display, the aforementioned Meridian 3D Surround Sound system and it also gets adaptive cruise control.

The overall layout of the interior is similar to what we’ve seen on other Jaguars and here too, customers can give their I-Pace a unique touch with two seat options — a Sport seat and a Performance seat — both can be had in a variety of finishes and colours.

Jaguar I-Pace powertrain and battery

In India, the I-Pace is available with just one powertrain option — a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup that produces 394bhp and 696Nm of torque. It manages to clock 100kmph in just 4.8 seconds from a standstill and if you drive with a bit of caution, the I-Pace is capable of a range of 470km on the WLTP cycle. This is thanks to a 90kWh battery pack. If you find a 100kw DC fast charger, you can get up to 100km of range in just 15 minutes of charging. A regular 50kW charger would give you approximately 270km of range in an hour. Included in the price is an 11kW AC charger which gives the I-Pace 53km of range per hour and is primarily for overnight charging in your parking lot.

Jaguar I-Pace price and rivals

Jaguar is pricing the I-Pace at Rs 1.06 crore for the base S variant while the SE variant costs Rs 1.08 crore and the top-spec HSE variant costs Rs 1.12 crore. Its closest and only rival at this point is the Mercedes-Benz EQC which is priced at Rs 1.04 crore, however Audi has confirmed that the e-tron and e-tron Sportback will make their way to India soon.
