With the lockdown still very much in force, Jaguar has silently launched the facelifted F-Type in India. In these times, carmakers are looking to excite the market with new products and the F-Type is without a doubt, the most exciting Jaguar on sale today. Prices start at Rs 95.12 lakh for the base car with its 2-litre turbo-petrol engine and go all the way up to Rs 2.42 crore. A total of nine variants are on sale right now. Let us break if down for you.

What’s new?

This 2020 F-Type is a mere update on the older one, but there are a fair few visual changes. Up front, the nose has a fresh, more sophisticated design with slimmer headlamps and a J-shaped DRL elements. The grille is larger and now gets a new mesh-like finish, while the clamshell bonnet has also been reworked for the updated car. The bumpers are new too, and vary from variant to variant, while the wheels on offer are new. From the rear, the changes aren’t as drastic but the LED taillamps are visually thinner and get new signatures as well.

On the inside, Jaguar claims to have upped the quality of materials used. What is new is the 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster that can be configured to look how the driver wants it to look. The central infotainment screen is 10-inches and is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Engines

There are a total of three engines on offer internationally — a 2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a 3-litre supercharged V6 and a 5-litre supercharged V8. Only the 2-litre and the V8 is coming to India, but the V8 will be available in two states of tune, with the higher output variants getting all-wheel drive.

Let’s start with the smallest engine — the humble 2-litre, badged the P300. It may not have too much by way of displacement, but it still puts out a healthy 296bhp and 400Nm. Performance is not too bad either, with a ton coming up in 5.7 seconds. The supercharged V8 on the other hand comes in two variants — the P450 and the full fat P575. The P450 makes 444bhp and 580Nm, giving it a 0-100kmph acceleration time of 4.6 seconds. The P575 makes 567bhp and 700Nm, and coupled with all-wheel drive, has a 0-100 acceleration time of 3.7 seconds.

The F-Type is also available as a convertible, and the most affordable one comes in at Rs 1.06 crore. The Convertible is marginally heavier than the Coupe, but that hasn’t compromised on its claimed performance figures. With a total of nine variants, the F-Type range is rather extensive (and to think there are even more variants abroad!), and covers a whole range of budgets. It rivals the likes of the Porsche 718 twins at the lower end and the 911 Carrera S, the Mercedes-AMG GT line and the soon to be launched BMW M8 on the other end.
