IndianOil is the first manufacturer in India to launch premium-grade 100 Octane petrol in the country. Called XP100, the premium grade petrol was launched across ten cities by Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Steel. Currently, the normal petrol marketed in India has 91 Octane.
IndianOil’s premium grade petrol with 100 Octane is designed to extract better performance from the engines of high-end bikes and cars, enhancing fuel economy and engine life. It exceeds IS-2796 specifications and is also an environment-friendly fuel with reduced tailpipe emissions. Nevertheless, the bump up in performance brings with it a suitable price hike, with the XP100 petrol being priced at Rs 160/litre in Delhi NCR.
Worldwide, 100 Octane petrol has a niche market for high-end vehicles that demand high performance, and hence is available very few countries, such as Germany, USA, Italy, Japan, Indonesia and Malaysia, among others.
It is also noteworthy that XP100 premium grade petrol has been produced at IndianOil’s Mathura Refinery using the indigenous Octamax technology developed in-house by IndianOil.
IndianOil has plans to launch the XP100 premium grade petrol in 15 cities across the country in two phases. The first phase, which kicked off on December 1 has seen the fuel made available in Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Agra, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Mumbai, Pune and Ahmedabad.
In the second phase, the availability of this 100 Octane petrol will be extended to Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Bhubaneswar. These cities have been selected basis their aspirational demographics and availability of high-end vehicles in these cities.
