The GA-B platform aims to improve handling and provide more space

Toyota launched its Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platforms in 2015. The TNGA series includes different platforms, namely GA-L, GA-N, GA-K, GA-C and now they’ve launched the GA-B for small cars. The platform aims to smartly package the car by using spaces that are usually overlooked to provide more room in the cabin. The platform also helps to lower costs and simplify the manufacturing process.

Toyota said they’ve put focus on driving dynamics as well; the driver sits lower and further toward the center of the car to improve center of gravity. The steering wheel is positioned closer to the driver and at an optimised angle. The platform is lighter overall for weight saving. The wheels are pushed out to the corners of the car which should improve handling while allowing for more room in the cabin.

The GA-B platform is modular as well; it’s length, width and height can be optimised for the type of car. The platform uses a MacPherson strut front suspension and either a torsion beam or multi-link rear suspension depending on the application. Toyota will be able to use the platform for small hatchbacks, sedans as well as compact crossovers. Expect the next-gen Yaris to be based on this platform.
