The Mini Cooper S has been launched in India at ₹44.9 lakh (ex-showroom). Now, in its fifth generation, it keeps its famous silhouette but gets comprehensive restyling with a new grille, headlight and tail lamps. It gets a completely revamped cabin with a new OLED display and ambient lighting in the dash.
The Mini Cooper S gets a new octagonal front grille that houses the BMW Group’s smallest ever radar sensor between the air intakes and is supplemented by a total of 12 additional ultrasonic sensors. The grille is flanked by a pair of new round LED headlamps with three selectable signatures and welcome/goodbye animations. The rear end is redesigned and features new matrix Union Jack LED tail lamps with sequential indicators. The wheel size ranges from 16-inch up to 18-inch.
The Mini Cooper S’ cabin retains its signature round theme, and is headlined by a free-standing 9.4-inch OLED infotainment system. The steering wheel design is new, but there is no instrument cluster and car information is displayed on the central screen itself. The parking brake, gear selector, start/stop key, experience mode toggle, and volume control are accessible through the toggle bar unit under the screen in the centre console. The gear selector is gone now and in place there’s a wireless charging tray. There’s a panoramic sunroof and the 60:40 split rear seat can be folded down to expand the standard 210 litre boot volume to 725 litres.
The Mini Cooper S gets a 2-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that makes 201bhp and 300Nm. It sprints from 0 to 100kmph in 6.6 seconds. The previous Mini Cooper S featured the same engine but made less power – 189bhp and 280Nm.
The Mini Cooper S has been launched at ₹44.9 lakh (ex-showroom). The previous Mini Cooper S was launched at ₹38 lakh (ex-showroom).
