Lamborghini's first hybrid retains the nat-asp V12 but adds three electric motors

Lamborghini has launched its flagship Revuelto at an eye-watering Rs. 8.89 crore (ex-showroom). The Italian marque's first plug-in hybrid HPEV (high-performance electrified vehicle) features a screaming 6.5-litre V12 and three electric motors for a combined output of 1001bhp.

In typical Lamborghini fashion, the Revuelto’s styling is as flamboyant as it gets. Its design remains unmistakably Lamborghini with its low-slung wedge shape, yet it looks substantially different compared to its predecessor. Lamborghini says the Revuelto draws inspiration from historic V12 models like the 1971 Countach prototype as well as modern supercars like the Diablo and Murcielago.

The shark-nosed front end houses a pair of slim LED headlights with giant Y-shaped DRLs that look like they came straight from the limited-run Lamborghini Sian. Hidden within the black trim of the front bumper aperture are two radar sensors necessary for the Revuelto’s suite of ADAS features. Moving to the side, vertical fins sit just behind the front wheels, channelling air past the scissor doors and into the Z-shaped side air intakes.

Further back, the dual central exit exhausts are flanked by slim Y-shaped LED tail lamps. Above this sits the active rear wing, which uses three different modes to balance downforce requirements while minimising drag. The highlight, however, is the cutout in the engine cover, which puts the top of the V12 engine on display.

Lamborghini Revuelto interiors and features

The interior volume of the Lamborghini Revuelto has grown significantly when compared to the outgoing Aventador, which should make it more comfortable for daily use. It even gets cup holders – a first for a V12 Lamborghini. The Y-shaped theme continues on the inside with the dashboard that has been designed to make the driver “feel like a pilot.”

Bang in the centre of the dash sits an 8.4-inch infotainment screen encased in carbonfibre. This is augmented by a 12.3-inch digital driver's cockpit and a 9.1-inch display on the passenger side, which allows the driver and co-driver to view the same information simultaneously. All three displays are controlled by a unified "brain,” which allows apps to be controlled using Amazon Alexa voice commands.

The Revuelto also packs in a comprehensive suite of ADAS functions – a first for a Lamborghini – with Active Lane Departure Warning, Lane Change Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

Lamborghini Revuelto powertrain and chassis

The Lamborghini Revuelto’s monocoque is made entirely of carbonfibre and features a front structure made of forged composites, giving it 25 per cent more torsional stiffness than the Aventador. The monocoque, or monofuselage in Lambo speak, is 10 per cent lighter than before, and the front structure is 20 per cent lighter than its aluminium predecessor.

The highlight of any flagship Lamborghini, however, has to be the powertrain. Lamborghini has resisted the urge to move to forced-induction and stuck with a naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 that revs to 9500rpm. The engine remains longitudinally mounted; however, it has been rotated 180-degrees with the all-new 8-speed DCT gearbox being placed behind it.

This frees up room in the transmission tunnel for lithium-ion batteries that power the three electric motors. One electric motor is mounted above the gearbox to drive the rear wheels, while two e-motors drive the front axle, giving the Revuelto all-wheel drive. The batteries recharge themselves using regenerative braking or can be plugged into an outlet and fully charged in 30-minutes.

The V12 engine and the electric motors produce a combined output of 1001bhp which propels the Revuelto from 0 to 100kmph in 2.5 seconds and on to a top speed in excess of 350kmph.

Lamborghini Revuelto price and rivals

Earlier this year, Lamborghini announced that the Revuelto was sold out for the next two years. However, Lamborghini India has secured a few allocations and has launched the Revuelto at Rs 8.89 crore (ex-showroom). The Lamborghini Revuelto competes against Ferrari's hybrid, the SF90 Stradale.
