Hyundai India has launched the Grand i10 Nios today at Rs. 4.99lakh(ex-showroom, India). Available in four trims, Era, Magna, Sportz and Asta, the hatchback goes all the way up to Rs. 7.99lakh for the range topping Asta trim diesel. This variant is however only available with a manual transmission. The AMT variant is available for the mid-spec Magna and Sportz trims at Rs. 6.37 lakh and Rs. 6.98 lakh with the petrol engine. The AMT is only available with the Sportz trim for the diesel and is priced at Rs. 7.85 lakh.
The Grand i10 Nios gets a completely redesigned exterior and a heavily updated interior for this third generation of the hatchback. The name ‘Nios’ means ‘more’, and hints at Hyundai offering even more in terms of style, space and features to its customers with this update. The Nios will not replace the Grand i10, but the two will coexist in the Indian market. The Grand i10 Nios will go up against the Maruti Suzuki Swift and the Ford Figo

The Grand i10 Nios is available with two powertrains, a 1.2-litre BS6 petrol and a 1.2-litre diesel engine. The hatchback is now the first car in Hyundai’s range to get a BS6 engine. The petrol engine makes 82bhp of power at 6000rpm and 114Nm of torque at 4000rpm while the diesel engine makes 74bhp of power at 4000rpm and 190Nm of torque from 1750rpm. Both engine options can be had with a manual of an AMT.
The Grand i10 Nios also gets impressive ARAI certified fuel economy figures of 20.7kmpl and 26.2kmpl for the petrol and diesel engines respectively.
The Grand i10 Nios looks like a properly fresh face. The headlamps have been completely redesigned and seem to feature projector headlamps. The cascading grille design has been updated and it gets integrated DRLs in the grille. The bonnet is fairly sculpted and gets a distinct power bulge down the centre. The Grand i10 Nios also gets fog lamps placed low down on the bumper in triangular curtains — these give the car a wide stance. The Grand i10 has stylish looking alloys too, and also gets ‘G-i10’ badging on the redesigned X-shape C-pillar. The Grand i10 also gets 15inch diamond cut alloy wheels. The Grand i10 Nios has slightly larger dimensions of 3,805x 1,680x 1,520mm as compared to its predecessor and Hyundai claims that this has resulted in added space inside.
The Grand i10 Nios gets dual tone interiors but instead of black and beige like on the Grand i10, the Nios gets black and grey interiors. The screen is now a floating design, and looks larger than the outgoing one. The layout of the dash is more grown up, with more stylish looking air-con vents and an updated steering wheel. The dash gets a dimpled texture than also features on the door panels.
The Grand i10 Nios offers segment first wireless phone charger. The infotainment system gets a 7.97inch touch screen display with Android Auto, Apple Car Play with voice recognition. The Grand i10 Nios comes with an Arkamys sound system with 4 modes to choose – Natural, Live, Lounge and Club. The aircon system of the Grand i10 Nios gets a new Eco Coating Technology that prevents unpleasant smell to develop in the AC Evaporator by degrading the micro-organisms developed in the AC Evaporator Core and ensures odour free air.
The front suspension is mounted with a McPherson Strut while the rear uses a coupled torsion beam. The Grand i10 Nios boasts of a low coefficient of drag of 0.347 resulting high fuel economy. The body structure is also brand new and boasts of 65% Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) + High Strength Steel (HSS) for increased stiffness.
The Grand i10 Nios also meets future pedestrian safety regulations with a lower stiffener applied to front crash beam to improve on the pedestrian safety. Additionally, standard ABS with EBD, emergency stop signal and dual airbags along with seatbelt pretensioners come as standard.
Hyundai Grand i10 Nios buyers will get India’s first variable warranty to account for users with different usage requirements with the option of 3 Years/100,000 kms or 4 Years /50,000 kms or 5 Years /40,000 kms along with road-side assistance.
