Estate cars are hugely popular in Europe for their added utility over sedans and reduced footprints over SUVs. However, they’ve never really done well in India. The BMW 5 Series Touring gets significant changes inside and out, including new powertrain options, mechanical goodies, and reworked interiors.

2024 BMW 5 Series Touring exterior and dimensions

The 2024 5 Series Touring has grown in all dimensions, and now has a 5,060mm length, 1,900mm width, 1,515mm height, and 2,995mm wheelbase which BMW claim is the longest in its class. The boot holds a volume of 570 litres which can be expanded to 1,700 litres with the seats folded down. As for aesthetics, the 5 Series Touring gets an illuminated front grille, and standard 18 and 19-inch wheel sizes with a 21-inch wheel optional. The front two-thirds of the car are nearly indistinguishable from the sedan, but the rear gets a larger greenhouse akin to that of an SUV. The rear window is accented by a spoiler, an optional diffuser is also available in the M trims. The new 5 Series Touring weighs between 1,835kg and 2425kg depending on variant and powertrain.

The 5 Series Touring is available in petrol and diesel mild hybrid as well as full electric powertrains

2024 BMW 5 Series Touring powertrain

The 2024 5 Series Touring will be available in petrol and diesel mild hybrid alongside full electric powertrains. The presence of 48V mild hybrid technology will be a new introduction to the diesel engines, and will be paired with an eight-speed transmission. The petrol powertrains will be carried over from the existing 5 Series and will feature no updates. The all-electric i5 variant will be a first for the 5 Series Touring, and will output 592bhp and 820Nm through an all-wheel drive system.

2024 BMW 5 Series Touring interior and features

Headlining the interior in the new 5 Series Touring are a 12.3-inch digital cluster and 14.9-inch infotainment screen offering in-car gaming and video streaming. Sports seats are now fitted as standard, and are upholstered in vegan leather. Also on offer is a new two-spoke hexagonal flat-bottom steering wheel. Standard equipment also includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, two 5G antennas to facilitate online services, parking assistant including start monitoring, trailer assistant, and a reversing camera. A panoramic sunroof is optional, as is an 18-speaker Bowers and Wilkins sound system.

2024 BMW 5 Series Touring prices

Prices for the 2024 BMW 5 Series Touring haven’t been announced yet, but a European launch is slated for May 2024. Estate cars haven’t been very successful in India, so it is unlikely that the 5 Series Touring will come to India.
