Volkswagen has given us a first glimpse at their first electric car costing less than 25,000 Euros (Rs 22.14 lakh) – the Volkswagen ID. 2all concept car. The concept will be going into production by 2025, and it will be based on Volkswagen’s MEB Entry platform for electric vehicles.

Volkswagen ID. 2all design

The ID. 2all gets a futuristic design with what Volkswagen calls a ‘friendly face’. It does have a similarity to the Volkswagen Golf, and the concept car gets rear doors with the door handles being neatly integrated into the door frame. The concept also gets 20-inch wheels, and the ID. 2all gets a C-pillar design which was developed for the first Golf.

Interiors get a minimalist design and 12.9-inch infotainment

The interior of the Volkswagen ID. 2all concept is a minimalist one, featuring a layered dashboard that gets two separate displays, one for the 10.9-inch digital instrument cluster and one for the 12.9-inch infotainment screen. Describing the space of the concept, Volkswagen claims that “The ID. 2all will be as spacious as a Golf and as inexpensive as a Polo.” The air conditioning controls get illuminated buttons and you also get two wireless chargers for your smartphones along with USB-C ports and a 230-V socket. There is a new multifunction flat-bottomed steering wheel with two thumbwheels and steering-mounted controls. The rear seats fold in a 40:60 split  and the luggage compartment has a capacity of 440 litres, with a further stowage area with a capacity of 50 litres under the rear bench seat. When the rear bench seat is folded down, the luggage compartment capacity increases to 1,330 litres.

The ID. 2all is based on the latest MEB platform and is the first MEB vehicle with front wheel drive. The electric motor produces 223bhp of power and the claimed range is 450km (WLTP).   0-100kmph comes up in less than 7 seconds with a top speed of 160kmph. At DC fast-charging stations, the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in 20 minutes. The ID 2.all is also the first of ten new electric models that will be launched by Volkswagen as a part of their product offensive in 2026.
