MG Motor India has launched the Shine variant of the Hector SUV with prices starting from Rs 14.51 lakh. The fifth variant introduced in the MG Hector lineup sits between the Super and Smart trims. It has a single pane sunroof, wireless mobile charger, and an accessory pack over and above Hector Super’s feature list. MG Hector Shine comes at a premium of Rs 35,000 to Rs 50,000 over the Super variant, depending on the engine option.

The mid-spec Hector further expands the variant lineup

Exterior

The exterior of the MG Hector remains the same barring the addition of an optional new Havana Grey colour and chrome on the exterior door handles. The rest of the Hector looks identical to other existing variants. You can read about it here.

Interior and features

The interior of the Hector Shine gets a few more features added over the Super variant. For starters, there is an engine start/stop button with smart entry and an electronic parking brake. The Shine variant has a much-needed wireless charging option and a new single-pane electronic sunroof. Mind you, it is not a panoramic sunroof, which is exclusively kept for the full-blown Sharp variant. Other new features that trickle down to the Shine variant from the top-spec Hector are the air purifiers, steering wheel cover, 3D mats, and window shades. Compared to the Sharp variant, the Hector Shine still lacks the voice-activated commands, find my car feature, tyre pressure monitoring system and ventilated seats.

Engine

The Hector remains unchanged mechanically and the Shine will be on offer with both petrol and diesel engines. The 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine generates 141bhp at 5000rpm and 250Nm of torque from 1600-3600rpm. One can buy it with either a CVT or a 6-speed manual transmission. The FCA-sourced 2-litre turbocharged diesel engine, on the other hand, churns out 168bhp at 3750rpm and 350Nm from 1750-2500rpm and can be bought solely with the 6-speed manual transmission. However, MG has not equipped the Shine with the 48V mild-hybrid system.

The market is in constant flux and the manufacturers are making every possible effort to pitch a more enticing deal to the customer. Tata recently launched a mid-spec Safari XTA+ variant to lure customers with exciting features within an accessible price range. MG too has recently launched the 7-seater Gloster Savvy and now another variant is added to the Hector family.
