Kia introduces its new logo in India, drops ‘Motors’ from its name

Kia announced that the new, flatter logo will first feature on the Seltos and Sonet as early as next month

As with most other brands, automotive and otherwise, Kia too has shifted to a more minimal brand logo. Gone is the circle encapsulating the broken up, K, I and A. Now, the logo is flatter and features an unbroken line connecting all three letters together. Aside from this, Kia also announced some impressive sales figures, a timeline for new models and a new direction for the company here in India. But let’s talk about that logo first.

The new Kia logo will be seen across all of the brand's touch points

The new Kia logo is flatter than before which has been primarily done to make it easier to represent across all platforms — digital and physical. With more and more screens dominating our lives, plus an app for almost everything, it makes sense for Kia (and other brands) to introduce logos that are more in line with the UIs that we use everyday. Of course, Kia did say that the unbroken line ‘conveys Kia’s commitment to create moments of inspiration’, while the symmetry of the three straight lines ‘demonstrates confidence’ and the rising gesture of the logo represents ‘Kia’s rising ambitions for the future.’

Now you may not notice these details on a day to day basis, but this new logo also marks a new identity for Kia, going further than just selling cars, hence Kia Motors India will be called simply Kia India from now. This new logo will be seen on its cars including the Seltos and the Sonet, along with all other future launches.

Strong sales for Kia in India

Kia came to our market with the Seltos that topped the sales charts soon after its launch and while it may not be the top-seller in its category anymore, Kia says that every third car sold in that mid-size SUV segment is a Seltos and total sales for it have crossed the 2.5 lakh mark! Its smaller sibling, the Sonet is placed in the even more competitive compact-SUV segment and there, every sixth car sold is a Sonet. All in all, Kia says that one of its vehicles is sold in India every two minutes.

The company isn’t sitting on its merits though and its future strategy involves products that will feature even more technology than before. To further strengthen its footprint, Kia is promising a total of 350 touch points in over 200 cities across the country, including tier three and some tier four towns, by the end of the year!

The refreshed Kia Seltos will be largely unchanged in terms of looks, except for the new logos

That’s not all though, Kia announced that the refreshed Seltos and Sonet will be on the market early next month, don’t expect too many changes aside from the new logos there though, and has also said that it will be foraying into a new segment early next year. Now the image used to represent this as yet unknown model was an SUV and with the market trend still favouring SUVs, that’s no surprise. It will be interesting to see what Kia comes out with though — the Sportage? Sorento? Maybe even the big, burly Telluride? Our guess is as good as yours at the moment.
