Okinawa Scooters have launched the Okhi 90, their attempt at moving the company in a new direction. The new flagship electric scooter gets 160km of claimed range in sport mode and 16-inch wheels. The scooter is priced at ₹1.22 lakhs across India, after FAME subsidies are applied with a further reduction in prices after state-wise subsidies come into effect.

Okinawa Okhi 90 design

Visually, The Okhi 90 looks like a conventional ICE powered scooter, and gets unusually tall (for a scooter) 16-inch wheels with tubeless tyres. This brings it in line with scooters like the Aprilia SR160 and Yamaha Aerox 155. It comes in four colours - red, blue, white and grey. There are LED DRLs at the front and the rear, as well as a coloured digital display with internet connected features that connect to Okinawa’s mobile app. It also gets a class-leading 40-litres of boot space, beating the Ola S1 Pro’s 36-litres.

Okinawa Okhi 90 performance

The Okinawa Okhi 90 gets a detachable 3.6kWh lithium-ion battery with a belt-driven centre mounted motor that produces 3.8kW. The Okinawa Okhi 90 gets 160km of claimed range in Sport Mode and 200km in Eco, which if held true in a real-world scenario, would make it the class leader, again ahead of the Ola S1 Pro’s 115kms that we got when we tested it. However, this claim will have to be tested thoroughly. The top speed is a claimed 90kmph. The scooter rides on a telescopic front suspension, with disc brakes at the front and rear with CBS.

Okinawa Okhi 90 price

Priced at ₹1.22 lakhs before FAME II subsidies, the Okinawa Okhi 90 is priced in direct competition with the Ola S1 Pro, Ather 450X, Bajaj Chetak and TVS iQube. Okinawa is also offering a 3-years warranty on Battery for the new scooter. Known for building a range of affordable electric scooters that have become very popular in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, with the new Okhi 90, Okinawa plans to move upmarket and rival the much hyped and talked about Ola S1 Pro and Ather 450X, the doyens of electric two wheelers in India, especially in the metro cities. Okinawa is making some very ambitious claims with Okhi 90, let’s see if it lives upto them!
