The second round of the 2021 VW Polo Championship took place at MMRT during the MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Car Racing Championship and Sai Sanjay took a dominant victory after starting from pole. This was Sanjay’s first victory in the Race 1 had to be delayed as frequent spells of rain made the track dangerous to conduct the event. But as the rain stopped and the sun came out, it resulted in some tricky conditions around the track and the race was underway. So with that said, let us now look at how Race 1 unfolded.

After the rain subdued and the sun came up, the track started drying quickly, but there were puddles of water in various parts of the circuit.

Race 1 of the VW Polo Championship was delayed for over two hours as heavy spells of rain didn’t allow for safe conditions of racing. The safety car was out for most of the morning as the marshals tried to assess the condition of the track. Seeing the relentless rain, all the cars switched to the rain tyres.

After the rain subdued and the sun came up, the track started drying quickly, but there were puddles of water in various parts of the circuit. So, even though a dry line was visible on the track, the marshals announced it as a wet race.

Sanjay had a brilliant start off the line and by the end of Lap 1, he had built up a sizable lead to the cars behind. The fight that heated up was for P2 as Oshan Kothadiya and Sandeep Kumar battled hard. Both the drivers were relentless and as the race progressed, the rest of the pack formed a train behind the two.

Even though Sandeep Kumar had better pace, he found it difficult to get past Oshan as he defended his position quite aggressively. But in the end, he was able to muscle past Oshan and snatch the second position. The move on Oshan dropped him down to P7.
