Race 2 of the 2021 Round 2 VW Polo Championship was held at MMRT during the MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Car Racing Championship and Ritesh Rai finished first after defending the position from an aggressive Avik Anwar and Sandeep Kumar. The race was less trickier than Race 1 as the track had dried up by then. But, there were a few puddles of water around the track which ensured that the drivers had to figure out new racing lines to extract the best lap times.

There was barely any gap between the two as Avik threw every overtaking move in the books, in an attempt to get past Ritesh.

Race 2 started with a reverse grid on the result of Race 1 and that meant Adil Shah started on pole, Ritesh Rai started P2 and the sole woman driver on the grid, Diana Pundole started in P3. Meanwhile, Avik Anwar started from P7 on the grid and Sandeep Kumar started from P11.

Ritesh had a great start off the line and quickly overtook Adil on the opening lap. At the same time, Diana could not capitalise from the race start and by the end of lap two she fell down the order to P6. She remained in P6 for the rest of the race.

Avik Anwar, the 35 year old automotive journalist from Bangladesh, found his rhythm early on in the race and carved his way through the field until he was right behind Ritesh. That is when the dogfight started between the two. There was barely any gap between the two as Avik threw every overtaking move in the books, in an attempt to get past Ritesh.

Both of their cars touched on multiple occasions but they managed to keep it clean. However, the fight between the two allowed Sandeep to catch up and now, the final two laps of the race was a dog-fight between the three.

In the end, Ritesh was able to keep his nerve, defended his position from the two behind and won the race. Avik finished second and Sandeep came third after a valiant drive from P11. For more news from the world of Indian motorsports, stay tuned to evo India!
