Volkswagen Motorsport India has been one of the most proactive manufacturer-backed motorsport divisions in recent years with its popular one-make championships such as the Polo Cup and the Vento Cup. However, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd. (the parent company under which the Skoda and Volkswagen brands operate in India) has announced that it would be handing over its Motorsport operations to Rayo Racing (RR Motorsport). This transition will be effective from January 1, 2023.

The reason behind this transition is that the Volkswagen Polo hatchback and the Volkswagen Vento sedan, which were used in one-make championships bearing their respective names, have been discontinued in the Indian market. Customer racing teams can reach out to Rayo Racing for motorsport-specific parts and components.

Rayo Racing, led by national karting and racing Champion Rayomand Banajee has been associated with Volkswagen Motorsport India for a long time, and Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of ŠKODA AUTO Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd. commented on the transition by saying, “We are delighted to hand over the operations of our Motorsport business to Rayo Racing, who will continue to cater to the enthusiastic customers seamlessly.”

Sirish Vissa, Head of Volkswagen Motorsport India added, “Volkswagen Motorsport has played a significant role in uplifting motorsport in India by training and creating aspiration among amateur drivers towards this sport. With the handover of the motorsport business to Rayo Racing, we are confident that the team will continue to deliver the same enthusiasm and customer experience.”
