The fifth and final round of the Meco FMSCI National Karting Championship X 30 class concluded the previous weekend, and with it brought in the overall champions in their respective categories. Bengaluru’s Ruhaan Alva, took the overall title in the Junior category. However, it wasn’t all easy goings for him; he started the weekend by qualifying second, and then finished P2 in race 1 as well, with fellow Bengaluru lad Rohaan Madesh taking the win there. However, Ruhaan bounced back strongly in race 2, taking the win, and with it the championship title as well, with Rohaan Madesh and Akshat Misra (all three from Bengaluru) placing P2 and P3, respectively, in the overall standings.
In the Cadet class, Bengaluru’s Ishaan Madesh (the brother of Junior class runner-up Rohaan Madesh) virtually steamrolled the competition, not only qualifying at the head of the grid, but also winning both races, as well as the championship. Coming in second overall was Pune’s Sai Shiva Makesh, and Bengaluru’s Anshul Sai rounded off the podium. Pune’s Arafath Sheikh, meanwhile, finished at fifth place in the overall standings, as he could not qualify for the fifth round of the championship and thus had to make do with no points for the final round.
Finally, in the Senior class, the initial hard work and success for Coimbatore’s Suriya Varathan paid off in the final round. This was because not only did he qualify third, but his best showing all weekend was a third-place finish in the first race (he finished P4 in race 2). Despite that, however, he emerged on top as his massive 27-point lead over Chennai’s Nirmal Umashankar (at the end of round 4) meant despite gaining a paltry 23 points this weekend (as opposed to Umashankar’s 31), he still ended up at the top spot in the overall standings. Hence, Umashankar finished second, with Bala Prasath (also from Coimbatore) finishing in the third place.
