Mahindra Racing had a difficult week at the double header of New York City E-Prix. The team had a promising start but finished pointless in Round 10 after a series of unfortunate incidents. However, they managed to bring both the cars home safely and finished Round 11 with 10 points. This puts the team at P10 in the constructors championship with 78 points, one point away from Nissan E.Dams at ninth.

Round 10 started on a good note for the team with competitive grid positions but the drivers could not make the best from their starts and things went downhill from there. Alex Lynn qualified P3 making it his fifth super pole appearance of the season. But his luck ended early as the Brit was spun after Pascal Wehrlein pushed him around at lap 10. He tried to fight through the grid but managed to come home P11. Teammate Alexander Sims qualified P9 but also had to endure hardships during the race. He was forced to retire from the race with a right rear puncture after coming in contact on lap 28.

Alexander Sims expressed “Yesterday was frustrating with the puncture. I think I got hit by Nato, but it was a bit of a racing incident, which was unfortunate as we were clawing positions back after struggling with pace at the start. Today was a solid race and I’m pleased with it – we had a lot of clean air so we just did our own thing and brought the car home. Normally the race is strong for us so we have to understand why we struggled in the races this weekend and keep working for London and Berlin.”

Mahindra Racing could not achieve great starting positions for Round 11 as Lynn started from eighth and Sims from ninth. But this time, the race turned out to be better as both the drivers brought the cars in points finish. The drivers pushed through the narrow tracks in Brooklyn and avoided any form of accident. Lynn and Sims came home at P6 and P9 respectively and brought home 10 points.

Alex Lynn said,“Today was a solid result, with a sixth and ninth place finish for us, in a weekend where we struggled with race pace. This championship is so tight; for our cars to finish ahead of all the factory BMW’s, Audis, Nissans and Mercedes shows the quality and competitiveness in the field. There’s a lot of work to be done ahead of London as we want to be back up there and our attention turns immediately to that.”

Mahindra Racing wants to dive deep into the data acquired during the NY E-Prix and wants to understand the issues for their poor race performance on a track that was projected to be one of their strong suits. But regardless, the team wants to look ahead to the London E-Prix which will be held on July 24 and 25. The drivers will also be wearing race suits designed by Mahindra Racing fans for the London E-Prix. To know more about the race suits, click here.
