Mahindra Racing driver Oliver Rowland talks about the first Formula E race in Hyderabad ahead of the Cape Town E-Prix

Team Evo India

It was fantastic to finally get some points on the board at our home race in Hyderabad. Having the home crowd behind us and all the support from the guests in the garage really pushed us on to perform at our best!

We struggled at the beginning of the weekend with our pace and frustratingly missed out on the duels in qualifying, meaning I started in P10, which is a difficult place to be. I got a good start and made up a few places, even battling for a podium position towards the latter part of the race, but unfortunately a track limits violation meant I picked up a five second time penalty, dropping me to sixth as I crossed the line. Still, it was good to score my first points of the season, with the momentum hopefully carrying into the next round of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in Cape Town.

I’m looking forward to the race in South Africa. Like Hyderabad, it will be another new track for the championship to visit. Having gone well in India, hopefully we will also perform well in Cape Town! This is the track and country I’m looking forward to visiting the most, and I will have my family with me too so I’m hoping to put on a good show for them!

I’ll be looking at continuing the momentum from Hyderabad into the Cape Town weekend to really start building on our championship standings. We are looking forward to getting back behind the wheel in just a few days’ time. Bring it on!
