Mahindra Racing bagged the top spot in the driver and team standings after an action-packed Mexico City E-Prix. The fourth race of the fifth season of the FIA ABB Formula E concluded with Jerome D’Ambrosio on the fourth spot and Pascal Wehrlein at the sixth. On the leaderboard, Mahindra Racing is leading the Team standings with 83 points, followed by Envision Virgin racing team at 73 points. Jerome’s topping the driver’s standing with 53 points while Pascal is at the fifth position with 30 points.

Mixed emotions for the Mahindra Racing Team

D’Ambrosio had a tough qualifying session and had to settle for a tenth-row start after encountering traffic on his fast lap. However, D’Ambrosio put on a stellar performance and rose up seven positions in the first lap itself. Continuing the same momentum, he landed in the top ten by the third lap. Post an early red flag period, D’Ambrosio progressed through the race smartly and finished at the fifth position after the two Nissans in front of him ran out of charge. Due to Pascal’s time-penalty post-race, Jerome was ranked fourth and awarded 12 championship points, putting him back in the lead on the driver’s leaderboard.

Pascal was at his best and grabbed the pole position in the Mexico City E-Prix, giving him three championship points. Starting off the race from the top spot, Wehrlein led the race until the last corner, where he cut a chicane to retain his lead against  Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler’s Lucas Di Grassi. This resulted in a penalty that dropped him down to the sixth position and was awarded nine points. However, he was awarded another bonus point for setting the fastest timing in the 12th lap.

Speaking on the racers’ performance in the Mexico City E-Prix, Dilbagh Gill, team principal said, “It’s a day of real mixed emotions and, although we come away leading both championships, I cannot help be disappointed that we missed out on a podium. Pascal performed to the highest level all weekend in only his second full race. He deserved another podium finish, but unfortunately, he has been hit by Lucas di Grassi twice in his three races. We have one of the strongest cars on the grid and Jérôme showed that by gaining 14 positions. I’m proud of everyone in the team and we will come back fighting in Hong Kong.”

Hong Kong will be hosting the fifth round of the 2018/19 FIA ABB Formula E Championship on 10 March.
