Best games for the #ThrillofDriving

A roundup of the best racing games with team evo India’s endorsement

Afzal Rawuther

We love cars and enjoy the time we spend behind the wheel. we put the finest machines that we can get our hands on through the toughest of tests. Way too often though we cant do justice to the potential of the best driving cars that we find. Paralysing traffic in our cities and horrible roads are to blame.

And then are there are some cars that only ever make it into the hands of a select few. I am talking about the McLaren P1s and Ferrari LaFerraris of the world. Or maybe a Bugatti Chiron even.

Thats where racing titles come into the picture.

With games that offer increasing realistic vehicle dynamics and graphics, these titles listed below have often been where we turn to when we need to scratch that itch of going faster.

So, without further ado, here's evo India's list of the five best racing games around.

Forza Motorsport 7

A game that encompasses every sort of racing scenario you could think of, Forza Motorsport 7, is invariably a game that you can spend months engrossed in. With all sorts variables including weather and light playing a part, the game has an added dimension to it. Iterative changes and additions to the franchise has made this, the first Forza for PCs, feel much more rounded as a game and gamers can choose from purpose-built race cars, road cars and everything in between.

Project CARS 2

A racing sim for the ages, Project CARS 2, has tons of challenges to keep you engrossed. Everything from driving on loose surfaces to recreated racetracks is thrown in with an incredible mix of cars, each with its own flavour. Several racing drivers acted as consultants when the game was being designed and it shows in the way the cars drive. One of the games with a strong e-Sports scene, Project CARS 2 has hours and hours of playability even after you have completed all the in-game challenges.

Dirt Rally 2

Prefer getting dirty? The Dirt Rally 2 is just the right game for you. Forget the sanitised environs of a racetrack, this game puts you in the driver's seat of a rally car. Following close to the footsteps of its predecessor, Dirt Rally 2, puts a bigger focus on the driving aspect of what's arguably the most challenging form of Motorsport. This isn't a game you pick and ace in a weekend. There is a steep learning curve involved and once you bide your time learning your way through not crashing into trees, it is immensely rewarding.

Forza Horizon 4

Moving on to games with a much more playful disposition, the Forza Horizon 4 comes to mind quickly. With an arcade like feel and the ability to jump over mountains if you wish to, Forza Horizon 4 doesn't try to be a sim at all. In fact it is a game meant to be enjoyed while letting your hair down over the weekend. That said, the dynamics are actually rather excellent. With a new season every week, the game gives you plenty of reasons to come back.

F1 2018

For those of us looking to set the perfect laptime around Spa, or find the perfect lines around Abu Dhabi, every year brings a new and much more polished edition of Formula 1's licensed game. Although the underlying dynamics of the cars and track conditions are brilliantly replicated, the things that make F1 2018 stand out are the well-executed career mode that puts you in the boots of an F1 driver. Everything from car setup to race strategy is customisable and a wrong move could see you struggling for pace and falling behind your competition.
