Audi has unveiled the all-new Audi A6, currently only in Avant form but a sedan will follow soon. This is a big update, with a new platform, sharper and more aggressive styling that is a radical departure from the previous generation’s contemporary approach, and a completely revamped interior. Engines have been updated with 48V mild-hybrid systems as well.

2025 Audi A6 Avant styling

The styling is a far cry from the Audis of the past that used to be understated, this one is sharp, in-your-face and super-aggressive. The front continues to have a massive grille but it's complemented by slim headlights and DRLs that are swooped back. A big differentiator from the A6 e-tron that this car shares a name with is the fact that this car gets a conventional headlamp cluster, where the e-tron gets split headlamps. The A6 Avant comes with flush door handles and being an Avant, which is Audi-speak for a wagon, gets a boxy rear end. Styling elements are aggressive (pictured is the S-Line car) with a thin light bar stretched across the width of the car, and interesting looking tail lamps. Audi claims that the sporty design gives the 2025 Audi A6 Avant a drag coefficient (Cd value) of 0.25. This is the best value for an Avant with a combustion engine in the history of Audi.

2025 Audi A6 Avant engines

The Audi A6 Avant will be available with three engine options internationally. There’s the 2-litre TFSI and a 2-litre TDI, both making 201bhp, with a torque output of 340Nm and 400Nm respectively. There’s also a more powerful 3-litre TFSI V6 engine option making 361bhp. Both the diesel and the V6 get a 48V mild hybrid in the form of a starter motor generator and a slightly larger battery. The system adds efficiency and also gives a power bump of 23bhp and 230Nm in the right conditions. Interestingly, it also allows for a little all-electric driving – during low-speed manoeuvres such as parking, creeping through city, or while using light throttle inputs at speed. The system also allows for regeneration of up to 25kW, adding juice back into the battery. While the 2-litre TFSI petrol engine is front-wheel-drive only, the 2-litre TDI diesel comes with a Quattro all-wheel-drive system, with a 30:70 split, where 70 per cent of the power is sent to the rear wheels when accelerating hard out of a corner.

2025 Audi A6 Avant Chassis

The new A6 Avant is based on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) platform. It will come with steel springs as standard, though you can opt for air suspension with adaptive damping. Some international markets also get the option of a sports suspension that drops the ride height by 20mm and aids dynamics. The A6 also comes with the option of rear-wheel steer for the first time.

2025 Audi A6 Avant Interiors and Features

The interiors get a big update. You get an all-new dash layout, which is familiar if you’ve seen the Q6 e-tron, A6 e-tron or even the new Q5. The driver has twin screens in front of them – Audi virtual cockpit with an 11.9-inch diagonal display and a 14.5-inch MMI touch display. There’s also the option of a third display for the passenger, though this is only on Edition 1 cars. The A6 Avant can be optioned with a sound and vision package that comes with a Bang & Olufsen sound system. The S line and Edition 1 range get speakers in the headrests. It also offers 3D sound with 16 or 20 speakers and a highly efficient amplifier and subwoofer with 685 or 810 watts respectively. The A6 also comes with a switchable panoramic sunroof and four -zone climate control.

2025 Audi A6 Avant India plans

The A6 Avant is just the start of the A6 family. A sedan will follow, and then more powerful S and RS models. The sedan will likely come to India, but not anytime soon. European deliveries will begin in mid-2025 which means we are unlikely to see the car until 2026. The A6, when it does launch in India, will compete with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5 Series, both now sold in India in LWB guises.
