Yamaha YZF-R15 fans, rejoice! The company has silently launched the YZF-R15 V 3.0 with dual channel ABS at Rs 1.39 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This is in line with the government mandate of ABS/CBS on all two wheelers by April this year. It is now the first bike in the 150cc segment to sport dual channel ABS.  The ABS on the YZF-R15 gets adjustable fluid pressure, which can be varied to tweak the damping characteristics of the bike. Mechanically, the bike remains unchanged. The company is also targeting Batman fans with its new ‘Darknight’ colour scheme, which retails at Rs 1.41 lakh. (The R15 looks oh so sexy in this paint scheme!)

On the launch of the YZF-R15 with ABS, Motofumi Shitara, Chairman, Yamaha Motor India group of companies said, “The ‘Call of the Blue’ brand campaign introduced in 2018 was the beginning of a new outlook that has effectively hit the right note – Yamaha’s true DNA of style, sporty and excitement. The New Year 2019 will also be exciting for Yamaha and it is ready with heart-revving products. A brand known for leading generations of stylish rides through improved technologies, Yamaha has now engineered to implement dual channel ABS on the YZF-R15 Version 3.0. The initiative to offer dual channel ABS in YZF-R15 Version 3.0 has endowed Yamaha as the trendsetter in the 150cc class, by introducing it for the first time in this particular segment. Yamaha will continue to optimise the thrill of riding with its style and excitement.”

The third generation of Yamaha’s entry level sports bike was launched at the Auto Expo 2018, while the first-gen bike was launched back in 2008. To know more about the YZF-R15 generations, click here.

Its rival, the Suzuki Gixxer SF, priced at Rs 97,007 for the carburetor version and Rs 1 lakh for the FI variant (all prices are ex-showroom, Delhi), is equipped with single channel ABS.  Click here to read the comparo between the Gixxer SF and the YZF-R15 V3.0.
