Volvo has finally showcased the C40 Recharge in India. This is Volvo’s second EV for India after the XC40 Recharge. This new C40 Recharge is nothing but the Volvo XC40 Recharge in a crossover avatar. Volvo has said that the sales for the EV will commence in August while the deliveries will start in September this year. The C40 Recharge will be sold as a CKD in the country, similar to the XC40 Recharge.
Built on the CMA skateboard platform, the Volvo C40 Recharge maintains a similar profile to its sibling, the XC40 Recharge. Its design showcases a sculpted hood, a closed-off grille, LED headlights adorned with the distinctive ‘Thor's Hammer’ daytime running lights, a sleek sloping roofline, an angled windscreen, pronounced wheel arches, and stylish alloy wheels. At the rear, vertically stacked LED taillamps with elegant C-shaped ends enhance the car's aesthetic appeal. The SUV is equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels.
A feature that makes the Volvo C40 Recharge different from the herd is that this EV has zero leather usage in the interiors. The EV features a 9-inch vertically oriented infotainment touchscreen with Google Assistant support and a 12.3-inch digital driver's display, similar to the XC40 Recharge. The top-tier variant includes electrically adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, and a premium Harman Kardon sound system. The C40 Recharge is equipped with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as collision avoidance and mitigation, lane keeping aid, post-impact braking, driver alert, and run-off mitigation. It also boasts additional safety features including seven airbags and a 360-degree camera.
The Volvo C40 Recharge ships with the same powertrain that is offered in the XC40 Recharge. This EV packs in a 78kWh battery pack that propels the motor to produce 402bhp of peak power and 660Nm of torque. However, the better aerodynamics make the car score a better WLTP-claimed range of 530km when compared to its sibling that has a range of 418km. The C40 Recharge has an AWD powertrain and does a 0-100kmph sprint in 4.7 seconds. It supports 150W fast charging that replenishes 80 per cent of the battery fully in 27 minutes.
The prices of the Volvo C40 Recharge have not been revealed yet by the Swedish automaker. However, the company has said that the bookings will start when the prices are out. The sales will commence in the month of August and the deliveries will be green flagged in September. This EV will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, BMW i4 and the Volvo XC40 Recharge.
