The wait is finally over! We’ve been waiting for this moment ever since Toyota confirmed the rumours and unveiled the Hilux at the beginning of 2022, and now we have it. The Toyota Hilux has finally been launched and will be offered in three different variants, with prices starting from Rs 33.99 lakh for the 4x4 MT Standard, to Rs 35.80 lakh for the 4x4 MT High, and the 4x4 AT High priced at Rs 36.80 lakh. With its price tag in mind, the Hilux doesn’t seem to have any direct rivals (the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross is a whole segment lower), but it could possibly look to dent sales of some premium SUVs.
Toyota Hilux Design
We have already talked about the styling of the Hilux in detail — you can click here to read more about it, but let’s just go over it in brief once again. The Toyota Hilux is, well, a pickup truck, with an imposing stance! We still haven’t seen it in flesh yet, and it has bits and traces of the Innova Crysta and Fortuner in its design, but the Hilux has its own identity for sure, and we’re just waiting to see one in real life soon.
Toyota Hilux: What’s under the skin?
Built on the IMV platform that’s shared with the Fortuner, the Hilux gets the same 2.8-litre turbo diesel powertrain, which is paired to either a six-speed manual, or a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission. This powertrain churns out 201bhp at 3400rpm and 420Nm of torque at 1400-3400rpm, the latter of which goes up to 500Nm of torque at 1600-2800rpm with the automatic! You also get 4x4, electronic drive control, electronic differential lock, and a low-ratio transfer case.
Toyota Hilux: What features am I getting?
Some of the equipment standard across all variants of the Hilux include the likes of an 8-inch touch screen infotainment system with CarPlay and Android Auto, a six-speaker sound system, cooled glovebox, two driving modes, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel, heat rejection glass and more.
The Hilux 4x4 High variant additionally gets an all-LED lighting setup, dual-zone climate control, electronically-adjustable driver seat, leather seats, rear A/C vents, a centre armrest and chrome treatment on certain exterior elements.
Meanwhile, the Hilux 4x4 MT Standard misses out on rear A/C vents, the power-adjustable driver seat and climate control. It also makes do with halogen headlamps and tail lamps instead.
Toyota has also packed all the variants of the Hilux with safety kit such as seven airbags, anti-theft alarm, front row seat belts with pre-tensioner and force limiter, ISOFIX child seat mounts, hill-assist, stability control, downhill assist control, traction control and emergency brake signal among others.
Toyota Hilux Prices and Rivals
The Toyota Hilux is being offered in three different variants — the 4x4 MT Standard, 4x4 MT High and AT High, which costs Rs 33.99 lakh, Rs 35.80 lakh, and Rs 36.80 lakh respectively. The Isuzu D-Max V-Cross may look like the Hilux’s closest rival, but it doesn’t offer as much equipment as the Hilux, is less powerful, and is a lot more affordable.
