The Ducati Multistrada is celebrating its twentieth anniversary this year, and the latest addition to the family is the Multistrada V4 RS. Said to be the sportiest Multistrada ever, the V4 RS takes over from the Pikes Peak as the range-topper, incorporating elements from the Panigale V4 superbike.

Ducati Multistrada V4 RS powertrain

The Multistrada V4 RS is powered by the 1103cc Desmosedici Stradale engine, derived from the Panigale V4. It is the only Multistrada model to feature this powertrain. The engine produces 177 bhp and can rev up to 13,500 rpm. It also features a shorter final drive ratio for more aggressive acceleration. Additionally, it uses a more permeable air filter from the Panigale V4 R and a freer-flowing exhaust with an Akrapovic end-can, developed specifically for this model.

The Multistrada V4 RS also features an STM-EVO SBK dry clutch made from billet aluminium, which is also found on the Panigale V4 SP2 and Streetfighter V4 SP2. This clutch is claimed to smooth the ride during braking and engagement phases, while also adding a distinctive metallic clatter, enhancing the signature Ducati experience.

Being a Multistrada, practicality remains crucial. The Desmosedici Stradale engine can shut off the rear bank of cylinders when the bike is stationary, reducing heat transfer to the rider's legs.

The Multistrada V4 RS features a 17-inch front wheel, as opposed to the 19-inch wheel on the V4 S and Rally. The Marchesini forged wheels are claimed to be 2.7 kg lighter than those on the V4 S and are fitted with Diablo Rosso IV Corsa tyres, sized 120/70 at the front and 190/55 at the rear. The steering head angle on the aluminium monocoque frame has been altered from 25.75 degrees on the V4 S to 24.5 degrees to enhance sportiness.

Equipped with Ohlins Smart EC 2.0 semi-active electronic suspension, the Multistrada V4 RS can adjust itself based on riding style. The system, derived from the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak, has been recalibrated for a better balance between comfort and performance.

The Brembo braking system, also derived from the Panigale V4, features 330mm discs at the front and a 265mm disc at the rear. This system is managed by the Bosch-Brembo 10.3ME Cornering ABS system. Carbon and titanium elements, along with a smaller battery, save 3 kg compared to the already aggressive V4 Pikes Peak.

Ducati Multistrada V4 RS electronics

The Multistrada V4 RS inherits the advanced electronic package from the Multistrada V4 S, featuring radar technology on both the front and rear for Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Blind Spot Detection (BSD). It also includes four power modes — Full, High, Medium, Low — along with traction control, wheelie control, and an up-down quick shifter. These systems have been calibrated and integrated into four riding modes: Race, Sport, Touring, and Urban.

The Multistrada V4 RS is priced at ₹38.40 lakh in India and will be available in showrooms starting September 2024. The V4 RS costs ₹6.9 lakh more than the V4 Pikes Peak and ₹11.67 lakh more than the V4 S. At this price point and with this level of performance, the V4 RS's only direct competitor is the BMW M 1000 XR, which is priced at an even more eye-watering ₹45 lakh.
