Tata Motors has announced that they will be launching the first car to feature the brand’s new electric technology Ziptron, the Nexon EV. The company is betting big on cleaner mobility and the Nexon EV will be the first step of the process.

The Nexon EV will get an approximate range of 300km which Tata Motors hopes will suffice everyday commutes and short day trips. The car will be powered by Tata’s new Ziptron technology which incorporates a high voltage system, fast charging capability, battery and motor with warranty of 8 years, and adherence to IP67 dust and water resistance standards. Expected to be priced between Rs 15 to 17 Lakh making it one of the most affordable electric cars in India.

Mr. Shailesh Chandra, President - Electric Mobility Business & Corporate Strategy, Tata Motors Ltd. said, “We are proud to announce that Nexon EV will be available for personal buyers in India from Q4 (Jan-Mar) FY19-20. Powered by the cutting-edge Ziptron technology, Nexon EV promises to address the barriers that exist in the EV market today and will deliver a thrilling on-road performance, ensuring zero emission. We are also excited to have the famous celebrity couple – Milind Soman and Ankita Konwar on board to share their experience with the EV enthusiasts. We are confident that the new Nexon EV will further raise the bar for electric cars, making EVs an aspirational choice for consumers.”

The Nexon EV hopes to provide electric mobility for the masses in India by striking the right balance between price and usable range. Tata has also started to install EV chargers in India to provide the infrastructure needed for electric mobility in the country.

He came across this career path by chance, and going by how excited he gets as soon as new metal rolls into the office, he seems to be loving everyday of his journey as an automotive journalist.
